Bit of a waste of time that Declan - as we predicted. SU and Newcastle drew. But as anyone on this thread will tell you if its 4/1 or 5/1, don't expect to win, the odds are obviously against you.

Some bloke on MOTD tonight claims a ?5 and 20 team accumulator made him ?4750 - so there you go. But you might as well do the lottery.

Mostly, but not exclusively, this thread is about horses, so feel free to join in, try watching the 3.15 at Longchamp tomorrow, it might be one of the highlights of the racing year.

If you want the best footie advice, the footie thread is full of experts. You will have lots of score predictors there and in general thay are quite good. Good luck.

I've no interest in horses so don't worry I will stay away from your thread in the future.

He had a bad start as well, and was pulling like a train for the first couple of furlongs. What a race though. I've never seen a horse like him. Can you imagine being in front in a race with STS in the field? It must be such a horrible feeling!

Oh and it must feel even better if you backed him too - I think Quids and Kells both had antepost odds so well done.

My Breeders Cup bet on Rip looks weaker now - there is little point in turning up if STS is in the field - although the dirt track may not suit him as he likes it fast, but even so you would not want to oppose him on any surface. I'm sort of hoping they don't run him and leave his fantastic record as it is. Then Rip will be favourite.

The more I think about it the more I think they will not run STS in the Breeders Cup - its a new surface and an unnecessary risk and to be honest after today he has absolutley nothing to prove. (I hope I'm right:))

The opinions build on whether STS needs/should go the the Breeders Cup:

Much interest concerns whether the horse will now go on to the Breeders' Cup Classic on dirt in Santa Anita, California, on 7 November.

But Oxx, 59, said: "It might be a step too far. We'll let the dust settle after this victory and in any case the race is over a month away.

"However, put it into another context it will also be almost Christmas and he has been on the go really since Easter."

Kinane, who has now won three Derbys and three Arcs, was also sceptical: "His coat has gone. He's got hairy today and you can see he got warm.

"I don't know what John and the owners have in mind. Does he need to achieve anything more? I don't know. It's questionable. He's a phenomenal horse. You'd hate to do anything wrong by him."

His Hong Kong owner Christopher Tsui said the trip to the west coast of the United States was "a big question" that needed to be addressed.

"We will have to have a long chat with John about that. I am ruling out nothing for now," said the nightclub owner whose parents had won the Arc with Sea The Stars' dam Urban Sea in 1993.

European bookmakers remain wary that the horse may still take his place at Santa Anita despite the astronomical stud fee that awaits him.

Sea The Stars was cut to 5-2 for the California contest by both Paddy Power and William Hill.

But leading figures in racing questioned whether it was necessary for him to make the journey.

Four-time Arc-winning jockey Pat Eddery told the Racing Post: "He was brilliant. He got a bit warm and he pulled a bit but he was brilliant. This horse has run every month for the last six months and won six Group Ones in a row.

"They can go to America if they like but I just hope he never runs again. He's got nothing left to prove."

Geoff Lewis, winner of the 1971 Arc on Mill Reef, said: "It's obvious he's one of the best we have seen for a very, very long time. I don't know why they would want to go to America, he's done enough already."

I don't know, it's a huge ask and I'd hate to see him beaten in possibly his last race before he goes to stud. But then, I've always been a bit soft when it comes to horses. It's a long flight for a race on a surface he's not used to......oh for God's sake woman get a grip.........OK I'd love it!

MickMac - I wouldn't have minded if I hadn't backed STS. Just like if Spurs win the league it'll be the best ?1000 I ever lost. (Well, it wasn't strictly speaking mine, because I arbed it, but you get the picture)

Rip Van Winkle (remember him?) is now Betfairs antepost favourite for the Breeders Cup ahead of STS, this suggests STS is not thought be a likely runner.

Have just had a few quid on Leinster to beat London Irish (its on sky) at remarkably short odds of 1.4.

Still checking RP website every day for news of STS hopefully not running in Breeders Cup - but no news. I have all my winnings from Rips last win on him to win the BC too so could do without STS making an appearance. Both horses now level betting on Betfair which worries me. Have saver on STS as no doubt if it runs it will win. Its a month away and I'm excited.

If it was not so late it might have been a good idea to have a Breeders Cup evening in the CPT but I think the Classic is not on until gone 2am!

Well Quids - I've just taken the 3.05 (>2/1) on betfair. It seems looking at KS's record he has won on all ground conditions, so having checked the weather I'm not too concerned about the ground and hopefully it will not rain too much betwixt now and Friday. Its my biggest bet to date. I'm hoping therefore its a case of last year was a blip on his record. I watched a rerun of last years race and Denman was fantastic but it seemed KS brushed every fence, was never in rhythm during the race and actually despite all that, he was not a million miles away in the end (2nd 7l behind) so I think if he is back on form he will win, fingers crossed.

- but as I'm sure you know, no horse has ever won, lost and then won again so it would be new ground.

Let me know who you choose in the end.

I like the jumps in the winter and the flat in the summer Quids.

KS was a >?600 winner for me - so its part of the pot of winnings I have been dwindling away ever since. It was towards the end of a very good run of well chosen winners - before I started this thread and became to random in my selections.

oh and re the above question - did you go for KS in the end?
