Found one I my garden... Very old and rusty and the pin is removed as is the bottom section which shows the inside...

When you say found.......

Did you dig it up , or was it above ground, in the shed for example ?

If the former, I would inform the authorities. They will contact the Army EOD chaps, and you may face the prospect of your garden being re-landscaped for free

It may be part of a war time cache

Is the inside empty ? If not, step away and I refer you to the above advice

If it is, its probably a relic souvenir

I am not sure whether to report it. Its unusual that its rusted through, the shrapnel case is usually quite thick, unless it did explode but poorly, in which case it still could have a little explosive in it???

Yes of course you report it! Not worth the risk, unless you are a weapons expert and are sure it is disarmed.
