Jacks (cafe)

Went there a couple of days ago. The awning wasn't down so it looked as if it was closed from a distance but that is because of scaffolding outside. They always close during the holidays and for a couple of weeks during the summer. But their food is lovely. I hope Fi comes back soon.

Where's Fi? The usual staff are friendly, but it's true sometimes I see an unfamiliar face and then I miss the ones i know.

She has been rather ill and has been recuperating. Heard she was doing some baking from home for Jack's.

whoever said business is slow, it really doesnt apply to Jaks. I fight for a seat every time. It's usually packed. And with people prepared to wait too.

Depends when you go, I avoid the main lunch rush. I just love Jacks, the tarts, the salads, the juice, the cakes, the friendly atmosphere, the tiny garden, the toys.. and it's good value. oops. Maybe I should say it's horrid, don't go there!!

If you want the best warm chocolate brownies with ice cream then definately pay a visit to jacks they are actually the best ive ever had in my life.

and as for all the comments about the staff, i find them all splendid. Always trying to make your visit a nice one and making sure your having a nice meal.

I always seem that you get a service with a smile, and would recomend this to all of my friends and family.

They dont do the typical greasey spoon fare, calling it a cafe distorts the nature of the beast. What other 'cafe' does swedish meatballs.

The first time I went in I mentioned the forum and the lady said 'Oh what have they said about us this time' I quickly pointed out that EDF people thought highly of Jacks, which was why I had gone in there, it made her smile.

Love love love Jacks. Especially their yummy bread, thickly sliced and warmed with butter. Yum. Their sometimes unpredictable opening hours give me that feeling I had as a child when shops weren't open on Sundays - you get annoyed when you want to buy something, but you appreciate them so much more when they are open! Yay for Jacks doing their own thing, playing hard to get sometimes.

Jack's closes for a long period in the summer due to school holidays. They haven't had a regular member of staff for quite a few months now as she has been off recovering from a serious illness. Re the smelly bin - did you say something?

I liked the australian girl who was the first member of staff when Jacks first opened - she was wonderful. Haven't much liked any of the staff (except James) since then really - although the older woman with the reddish hair was always cheery - is that Fi?

Fi's lovely. Used to hold one twin for me when they were babies so i could have a bit of cake in peace.
