  1. stop being so spiteful why can't you be happy for businesses that do well rather than nit picking and continuing with this angst against what was a successful business, the forum can be a very hurtful place for new businesses I'm not surprised a lot close down its a poisoned chalice so give up on your tirade and move on, we've weathered this forum before and warned other new business's not to take the opinions of a few very bored very obstinate people for the views of many! Oh and by the way it was home brined Salt Beef Now go water your hanging baskets dear because I'm done here
  2. Oh give over - I know the lady who wrote that and she was a fabulous customer who supported small businesses and I also know that 99% of our customers were wicked. When did I say that our business didn't work out???? We gained 5 stars in Time out, 2011 came 4th for Best Coffee in London by London Lifestyle Awards and again in 2012 short listed into the top 10 alongside Kaffeine, Tapped & Packed. We were very successful, just not big enough to fit everyone in. I sold our business lease "goodwill" with 100% profit and we are sorely missed by our customers. This thread is NOT about Jacks .... Move on. We have! Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ah, the pastrami situation is intriguing. 3. I thought the lady from Scoop had retired?
  4. Your missing my point - East Dulwich is going to become another Clapham with all the big high street chains because the rent is too big for small businesses to afford AND businesses round here aren't busy enough to pay that rent. I know that for a fact. East Dulwich is dead in July/August during any kids holidays when the middle classes take their darlings away for months on end. That is when you get a real taste of who lives in East Dulwich and who supports the local businesses. SO if you don't regularly shop and put your hands in your pockets throughout the year your gonna lose what you like in this area ie independent shops. Oh and by the way I never served pastrami. 5. ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > In ten years time it will no longer exist, having > disappeared up it's own arse in September 2016. Laughed my tits off at this! Your not wrong. I'm not pigeon holing everyone in ED but by god there is an awful lot of stuck up, pretentious people living here. Billy Connolly hit the nail on the head when he was quoted saying - "he gets on well with working-class and upper-class as both groups of people had nothing to prove to anyone; the working-class knew who they were; the upper-class had so much money they had no need to prove anything." Too many middle class snobs In ED and their gaggle of snotty obnoxious children running around trying to rule the world. KFC, McDonalds, Primark & Wetherspoons on the high street? it's just round the corner!
  6. Just want to add .... Charlie supplied my outside catering business with an abundance of Xmas goodies including Turkey, Gammon, Gluten Free Sausage Meat for yesterday job. We were catering for ITV's crew, staff, producers etc including the producer that overlooks Masterchef, he has never let me down with quality and always goes out of his way to get whatever we need. ITV remarked how great everything was and we clinched future contracts. So high five to Charlie. Keep doing what ya doing chuck, your doing a great job and everybody appreciates you. Merry Xmas xxx
  7. Nathan & Ruth are fantastic, like Charlie at Flock & Herd Nathan trained with Ginger Pig and is an amazing butcher who is extremely passionate about rarebreeds and good quality produce! Nathan gets his Turkeys & Chickens from Fosse Meadows, there 81 day matured Cotswold Gold Chickens are absolutely amazing, you won't taste another bird like it haha!
  8. Hi Mearly Charlie at Flock & Herd is brill, ginger pig trained & butcher of the year. Such a talented butcher & a good laugh. Give him a chance, perhaps call him and have a chat, I think he would be upset that you felt like this!
  9. P.S Looking forward to Blue Mountain opening again! :))
  10. Hi devsdev Shame you didn't make it for our breakfasts! Peggy's Hangover Cure was a winner. It got us 5 red Stars in Time Out and shortlisted into the Top 10 cafes in London 2011 & 2012 with London Lifestyle Awards. We closed in July because the space we had wasn't big enough for what we wanted to do. We are looking for bigger premises but in the mean time you will catch us at all the good artisan food markets in London from November. Get yourself over to Brockley market on a Saturday 10-2pm they have fantastic food n coffee! ;))
  11. I went in a group of 5 to the begging bowl - all in the food industry and as a group this is what we thought. We met at The Victoria and my partner ran accross to ask for a table and within 10 minutes we had a call on our mobile to say you had one. Big thumbs up as we had the outside table. We could see you guys were busy and we would of been happy to wait up to an hour and we all agreed that first come first serve without bookings is cool. We all love street food so queuing isn't a problem for us at all. Loved the restaurant, the decor, the atmosphere, the glasses, the crockery, the table layout, the lighting. We all agreed when we sat down that we felt we were on our jollys going out for dinner! It was a warm evening so that helped ;o) Staff were amazing. Described the menu with passion and experience in tasting the dishes came across. Friendly, fun and attentive. We didn't like the light, slight and robust dishes. I'll be honest and say (sorry) that it is overpriced, especially the slight dishes - if the portions were bigger, then it would be spot on! Some of the dishes we had were; The betal leaves - The flavours burst in my mouth, loved it. Sweet, sour n saltiness spot on! If i had closed my eyes whilst chowing down i could of been back in Bangkok. The fish cakes - 50/50 everyone agreed the flavours were zesty but the texture wasn't squidgy/squeaky enough, i personally didn't like the mashed potato consistency. But thats your take on it! The tofu dish - was excellent and the greens salty and mourish! Yum. Salmon - This was the one dish that we were all dissapointed with, it was tiny :O( I would love to see this as a robust dish with lots of salmon on or just give a little more for your money. Squid - Tender Rabbit - Thumbs up, loved your take on it, the addition of authentic ingredients ie pea aubergines! Pork - The pork was extremely fatty, compared with the previous night. i know dingley dells have a higher proportion of fat but this dish also lacked depth of flavour. It wasn't a winner with anyone. Unfortunately you had run out of the fish, our own fault we should of got there earlier! We all agreed that we would LOVE to see the following on the menu ... 1. SOM TAM!!!!!!!! Always a winner. We would be there every week if you had this on the menu. 2. Pad Thai - i know everyone does it, but a classic done bloody well is always a winner and god there are so many poor ones about. There were no noodle dishes on the menu which was a bit odd. 3. Mussaman as a special ;o) 3. Bigger portions, better value for money. We could of all eaten more but didn't want to spend anymore on a school night. They were so busy, it was a great atmosphere. Thanks for a good night.
  12. Incredible!!!!! Moved on from pubs to fireplace shops WARNING - Nobody is safe in SE22/SE23 area!
  13. Hi Molly We are going to pop in at some point today, i'll introduce myself. Pink night sounds wicked! See you later :)-D
  14. Hi Molly I was chuffed to bits when i saw this thread as i love The Bishop and were coming down to The Victoria this weekend to try you guys out! Definately be up for a "pink" get together at The Victoria, i could bring at least 10 of my friends from East Dulwich and Herne Hill, it would be a lovely refreshing change of scenery from having to trek in to Soho YAY!! Strawbs, DJ Killer Queen are their still nights at The Rye once a month? Spk soon :))
  15. Fuschia I am a close friend of the people who have bought Jacks and i am a bit dissapointed to see that you have started your own thread on this. The people who have bought Jacks are incredibly passionate about food and have lived in the area for some time. They know about Jacks and will be continuing good home made food and a friendly atmosphere, welcoming everyone from the community and continuing the childrens menu! It is a little sad that you have written it off already, it certainly won't be an East Dulwich clone and hence why James sold it to Di and Alex as he approached them!! Di worked in michelin star restaurants through the nineties and Alex is a local artist. Please support your local businesses :O)
  16. It seems that this road is becoming the area where drug dealing is carrying on. Tonight a friend witnessed a vespa pull up on the junction of pellatt road with landcroft road. The white male approx age 30 got off his black vespa piaggio registration number LX56 DYN and hung around for 5 minutes looking suspicious. He used his phone a few times and then a dark green/blue vectra pulled up and parked on Landcroft Road registration number FE10 VYT. 2 black guys in the front. The white male got into the back and out again in 10 seconds, shoved a package in his pocket and drove off on his vespa. It was all reported to the police and they were extremely interested.
  17. Just to let everyone know that between 4-5am the laundrette on Pellatt Road/Lordship Lane was burgled. Forced entry from the front, ?50 taken and according to forensics no fingerprints or foot prints lifted. Very strange how a laundrette would be burgled. Everyone keep your eyes peeled for undesireables hanging around in the area. :X
  18. I have eaten at all the Thai restaurants in the area, by far the best is Lombok in Herne Hill, exceptional thai cuisine....cheap and cheerful BYO Thai Corner. If your in SoHo Busabai Eathai on Wardour Street. Stoke Newington....for Yum Yums. I travelled Thailand, i promise you won't be dissapointed with my recommendations :)-D
  19. I have to say that as a dog walker i feel embarrassed and so does my partner when we take our dogs walking round east dulwich. We have both been confronted on 2 occasions as to whether we are picking up after our dogs. We would never dream of not picking up their "poo" its part and parcel of being a responsible dog owner. It seems that there are a few that ruin things for us as is always the case. But we are perplexed as to why those that are irresponsible are never seen, I certainly keep an eye out for this and appreciate others to do the same and not be quick to judge others like me who always make sure they clean up after their dogs. It seems to me that those who cannot be responsible and look after both their animals and their environment should be named and shamed.
  20. We all send our love to Woody. Keep us updated x
  21. GET RID of Somerfield and Iceland and replace them with either Waitrose or M&S and a boots or a music store. I love indian food but coming home 1 night on the night bus i decided to count the number of Indian Restaurants on LL (obviously bored) i lost count there were at least 7 plus. My question is HOW on gods earth do they survive in the economic climate, businesses are closing at a rapid rate. LL lacks definately a wood fired oven/traditional italian and SHOPS, can you imagine the yummy mummys of ED faces if a baby GAP opened, they would queue down to GG roundabout and throw in a H&M why not ... and a OFFICE shoes!
  22. They were burglars who got spooked and ran off, they wont come back they very rarely do. Always report to the police, this is important because more often than not they have used tools to try and break the door open or perhaps used there foot to kick the door. SOCCO (forensics) will come round and they can take impressions of the tools that were used and prints off doors. They werent successful getting into your house BUT if they were a few streets down and the tools match or the foot prints then ,happy days. You will also get a crime number and it helps the burglary squad to see what areas the active burglars are working in and also it helps you for insurance purposes. Goodluck!
  23. Hi SNT Something i have to bring to your attention is a white male seen hanging around both ED Park and Sydenham and Dulwich Woods. He has been spotted by myself whilst walking the dog and also my dog walker. He has a scruffy appearance, his clothes are slashed and worn and he wears sandals with sainsburys bags on his feet, He isnt old, id say 30-35 and short blondey/ginger hair, almost shaved. He has been known to act innapropriately in the woods, simulating having sex with a tree and on Sunday he was sat on the bench at the entrance of ED park looking extremely nervous and interested in the children playing. I feel i should bring this to your attention asap. Pinkcustard73
