Fatal incident on the road to Peckham

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I'd like to apologise in advance if this post causes anyone any distress. On Monday morning on my way to Peckham station, I had the surreal and horrifying experience of walking within a few metres of a decapitated body lying in Rye Lane. One police offier had only just arrived, so I know that whatever happened had only just happened. A colleague who lives in Nunhead heard from a taxi driver that someone had been hit by a refuse truck in Peckham. Does anyone actually know what happened? I certainly didn't see said truck so I assume it didn't stop. I was pretty spooked by what I saw and I'm still thinking about it more than I'd like to be. I feel that knowing what happened will help me to feel better about it.
Thanks Shamnbles. Yes; I did ask the landlord in The White Horse about it in the end (good to know there are still some old school pubs in the area that are part of the community). The guy was called Fred, an elderly gentleman who lived nearby. He had a family and grandchildren and was well known in The White Horse so it seems alot of people have been affected by what happened. I have some 'closure' now but feel so sorry for the family that their loss should come in such a sudden and traumatic way.

    • Does anyone in this thread have any more information about what is happening to the Grove Tavern? As I understand it, Stonegate's lease should now be coming to an end. There has also been quite a lot of activity around the site - not just the works to create the crossing, but also some general clearing and tidying. A promising sign perhaps?  On the off chance anyone from Dulwich Estate monitors this forum, please do give us an indication of what is going on. As a local resident, I know that all of us on that stretch of Lordship Lane would really appreciate a bit more information.
    • What are they 'demonstrating' for then?  Because they've been reported as 'anti-immigration' demonstrations. Perhaps they're not that. So what are they exactly? This by the way - the suggestion that children are at risk from immigrants - is the definition of xenophobia. I don't believe there is any evidence at all that people born overseas pose a particular risk to children, compared with those born in the UK. Most violence against children occurs in the home. We do know for a fact that many of those behind the 'raise the flag' campaign have histories of violence, including domestic violence.
    • Given mrcheeky posting record? No, no I don’t think you can  Given what I’ve said about him, not sure why he “agreed” with my earlier post
    • Can we have all that again in English? And with punctuation?
