Is that music the Gala festival already?
cookie replied to Abe_froeman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think the background noise of music from 3 to 10:30 for 3 days a year is a huge deal in London. I went to the festival yesterday and it was a beautiful event with thousands of happy well behaved people. I get building noise every single day in my garden, including being overlooked by builders, but I wouldn't suggest people stop improving their homes. -
If you have a front yard, a wall anchor with top quality lock is an option. I store my bike in my front yard, attached to a wall anchor with top of the range Abus Granit D lock. It gets locked there in the evening with a cable through the wheels and a bike cover. It's a bit of a faff, but never been stolen. Wheels were stolen before I started using a cable through them though.

House of Tippler (and Liqourish before it) was always a nice friendly place to pop into on the way back from a night in central London. It often had DJs playing until late. It's actually a nick-nack shop now and the hole it left hasn't really been filled in East Dulwich.

Just rescued a toad from a plant pot. It must have fallen in from a step above. I haven't seen a toad in our back garden since we moved in 20 odd years ago.

I just participated too. And saw a similar bird. I put it down as a blackcap, but never seen one before. Saw more goldfinches than anything else.

PCN Peckham Rye nr Piermont Green + Lawyer recommendation please

I'm pretty sure the cameras were placed there after a school girl was killed by a motorcycle in the late 90s. Speed kills, slow down. -
Just had to look up what "gen" I am. Turns out I'm on the cusp of Gen X and boomer. Not sure if that makes me a fun vacuum or an old fogey :) I may be a supporter and regular attender of the festival, but I decry the name calling and nasty comments of some other supporters. I hope the organisers can work with the community to ensure the festival continues to go ahead with compromises if necessary on both sides.

It wasn?t just young people enjoying themselves. Myself and my wife, both well into our 50s enjoyed both days of the festival and met 4 similar age friends inside from the local area. The festival is very well run, has fantastic artists and some of the friendliest crowds I?ve seen at similar events. I realise peoples? experience of noise is subjective, but I can honestly say I could barely hear the festival until I was on top of it, and could hear nothing from where I live on Fellbrigg, however acoustics and wind direction can do funny things and affect some areas more than others. Compared to the constant noise from loft and kitchen extensions building work I?d say this is relatively minor and time limited. The volume inside is relatively low compared to similar events I?ve been to, personally I?d have preferred it louder, but I understand the limitations of running an event at this kind of site. There was certainly no stomach rumbling trouser flapping bass. On balance if it brings revenue into the council, promotes the area and allows thousands of people to enjoy a great weekend then we should support events like this.

A big thank you to the kind woman who returned my teenage son's wallet to a neighbour yesterday morning after he lost it on Peckham Rye. I didn't get your name, but you saved us much aggravation getting new driving licence, ID and bank cards. Thank you.

A Jay swooped down to use our birdbath just 3 metres from where we were sitting.

Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation

Southwark cyclists don't speak on behalf of all cyclists. I cycle through the Bellenden one way system every morning and evening, it feels alot busier and less safe since Camberwell Grove was closed. It's subjective, but I feel motorists have become more impatient and Give Way markings less likely to be observed at Chadwick Road and Lyndhurst Grove, perhaps because vehicles have been forced down small residential roads and become frustrated? Even when Camberwell Grove was open to traffic I never felt unsafe cycling along it. I responded that it should be opened, but not sure if my opinion will be noted as I live in SE22 not the immediate vicinity. -
I park my bike in my front yard, but have invested in a wall/floor anchor and locks that are "sold secure" gold standard. This link gives a few locks to choose from http://thebestbikelock.com/best-bike-lock/sold-secure-gold-bike-locks/ . I use Abus Granit wall anchor http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/locks/product/review-abus-wba100-ground-anchor-09-35287/ and Abus Granit U lock plus a chain through the front wheel and frame as I've had unsecured wheels stolen in the past. I also cover the bike with a bog standard cycle cover from Evans. It can all add up to nearly ?200 for good quality locks and anchors, but I like my bike and want to keep it, so thought it worth investing.

We get a flock of goldfinches visit to feast on the seeds in our teasels in the back garden. We were going to pull them up, but will keep them from now on. Also been nice to see long tail tits and a grey wagtail in Peckham Rye Park recently.

Yup, my Seat's on there.

My car was broken into on Fellbrigg Road last week. I can only assume they were looking for a sat nav as I'd left the sticky suction cup thing on the windscreen. Glove and other compartments were left open, but luckily I keep nothing in the car. All my CDs were left in my door pockets which probably means I have bad taste in music! Lesson to self, take sticky sat nav thing off the window.

Peregrines in the park (now identified as a not so common buzzard

The picture looks like a buzzard. Peregrine's have dark markings on either cheek.
