  1. Thanks Rockets - think we will do that.
  2. Just to make our Goodrich Road neighbours aware - our car was broken into last night (Tues). Not sure how they did it as no windows were smashed so assuming they used some type of scanner gadget?? We are on the top bit of Goodrich near Donkey Alley. Luckily the car wasn't nicked and we didn't have anything valuable in it but they made a real mess and left the door open. Keep your eyes peeled folks.
  3. I agree Alan Medic - luckily I don't advertise for him!
  4. My partner does handyman work for forum users and is always grateful if someone takes the time to post a recommendation on here. I agree that you need to be extremely careful when employing someone but if they have done a good job for you then it's nice to say so and to let other forum users know. I don't understand your point Sue - that a tradesman recently asked you to post a recommendation and because of that you have been put off using them again? Seems a bit mean especially if they did some good work for you.
  5. My Jack Russell hates them...she has spent the last few nights shaking every time one goes off..which is often. Big bang with no glitz...s**t fireworks anyway! Ban s**t fireworks - glitzy ones only.
  6. Thought this was a great idea. Has anyone tried it in Dulwich? http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/jun/23/reclaiming-the-streets-for-kids
  7. 'I am not perfect' by shambles. Sounds like the title of an awful book to me.
  8. none of us is perfect. sorry :))
  9. well...in a nutshell...a man who is being made a fool of because his wife is cheating on him and everyone knows about it except him. I think!
  10. Congreve's Way of the World had me running out of my 6th form college gates. Dreadful book (ok...dreadful play...do they count on this thread?). Anyway...full of boring, insufferable Dandys who argued constantly about who had the best wig. Learnt the meaning of the word cuckold though.
  11. I had to phone VM today as my set top box is stuck on the word PACE and not connecting. They can't send someone to fix it until Monday evening. Absolute pain in the butt as i'm off work with a stinker of a cold and was looking forward to a dose of crap tv!
  12. Hello all! I had a great time at the party...very hoarse the next day mind! Thanks Mark for making it happen x
  13. just to throw my hat in the ring - so to speak re contempt issues. once a person has been charged with an offence the case becomes sub judice. this means that any reporting of the details of the person charged ie name and details of the alleged offence in the same article may prejudice a jury. the charge details and details of the offence can be reported but not together. eg. article 1. joe bloggs of such and such address was charged with theft at sainsburys. he was further charged with assault. article 2. shoppers intervened in a violent struggle as a 38 year old man attacked a security guard at sainsbury's having been caught stealing. with regard to an arrest - the press can and do speculate as to the identity of that person but will include words such as 'allegedly' or 'believed' with regard to the offence that they are suspected of having committed as a caveat. arrest details given by the police are minimal. they may release the age. once info is heard in an open court it is in the public domain and can be reported - unless reporting restrictions apply. now that someone has been charged - care should be taken to avoid contempt issues!
  14. A good bakery would be nice..pop down of a morning pick up paper and fresh bread..mmm
  15. just a quick word about the old Upland Tavern...the jukebox had nearly every song by the Beatles on it and I really liked that :) going to try the FHT later this week with pals...it's just down the road and i've never been in before!
  16. no lewd comments please but i have always been able to put both my legs around my neck and pull my arms through! my mum took a photo of me once and it looks like i'm leaning on a beanbag!!
  17. It was so nice to see you all...those i saw..today..albeit briefly. Really sorry to miss you DM - my fault - was late :'( Thanks Mark for organising it so well. Love the postcards! x
  18. Jamaica Inn sounds good. I've never read Du Maurier altho have read quite a bit about her recently. Good recommendation mighty roar - thanks! Think I'll put the half read Pamuk back on the shelf for the time being!
  19. Congrats MP...how lovely! x
  20. 31st and like bagpuss78 it's pretty much gone by the next day!:'( will save pennies up though! what's the date for the next one then? must be friday 3rd june?
  21. mmm...finding Istanbul by Orhan Pamuk a tincy bit painful. It's a shame because I'm going there this Thursday for a few days and hoped this book would open my eyes to more than the tourist view of the city. Never mind, I shall persevere but am already looking forward to a new book. What are the latest recommendations people?
  22. drinks/postcards all sound good...see you there:)-D (back to off topic - sshhh - but Muttley you're right! How bizarre!)
  23. Well, having read through this thread I feel sorry for BB. A newbie comes and posts what they feel is a reasonable comment/observation and effectively gets blackballed. No need for such agression EDFrs. This new forumite has now been put off completly and I think that's appalling.
