re: Pointing brickwork recommendation

A few weeks ago I found recommendations on EDF for re-pointing of brickwork. I can't find the thread now, but I can add to the several recommendations for Alan the pointer, who did great work on my house, taking a lot of trouble to get a good result. His number for anyone needing pointing of brickwork is 07775 573857

we recommended Alan this time last year. He did a great job on the front of the house - pointing looks amazing. However this August we have wasted two weekends and a days holiday when he came to patch up the back where some damp was getting in. He turned up without a ladder, and with the wrong ladder. This has meant the area which needed to get done has not been. So we have paid him for half a job and now need to look elsewhere. Nice guy, great work just poorly prepared sometimes.

Hi - based on the reviews from the forum we had Alan round to fix the front of our house. He re-pointed part of the wall to stop some damp getting in, mended some brickwork around the doorway and refurbished all the windowsills (which were in a very tatty state).

He did a really great job for a reasonable price with a minimum of fuss. He left everything clean and tidy each day.

Overall highly recommended. As others have said, Alan's a decent chap too.

Another recommendation for Alan - he repointed some of our brickwork, repaired exterior cracks and tidied up a couple of our cracked and peeling window sills. Good result, reasonable price and a lovely chap to deal with.

Will happily recommend and use again when needed.

    • Let’s not all get scared of the foxes now. Most likely explanation is protecting its den or association with food. We have foxes, and cats and they are no bother to each other. The fox will leave when the cats are out.
    • I remember seeing something a few years ago on TV about a fox that was actually biting through people's shopping / takeaway food bags.  It was situated in an alleyway.  Not in London.  Very interesting in how the  urban foxes brain development has  been affected by their surroundings.   Not an exact quote from Darwin.  It's the adaptable that survive / not the strongest or the most intelligent.   I would be worried if a fox came close me.   Because they might be after my fur babies and they carry a lot of nasties.   Although they look beautiful from a distance or on a 🎄 card.

Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
