Just rode around London on the bike and everywhere are people out eating and drinking and playing and singing and cycling and skating and being with other people and lying down and laughing and being happy.

Can't they read all the DO NOT HAVE FUN / DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT MAY MAKE YOU HAPPY / DO NOT USE COMMON SENSE signs all over the place? I think they should do something about this and I am writing to my Councillor and MP today.

This sort of thing should stop.

I know what you mean PR, I've had a few myself today.

I'm currently singing along to Roxy Music's 'In Every Dream Home A Heartache'.

I apologise to my neighbours, outside of my own head it's not a pretty sound.

I'm also sorry in advance for my version of Bob Dylan's 'Positively Fourth Street'.

It'll be in about five minutes or so.

Sadly, I've witnessed EXACTLY the same whereever I've gone in and around London PR.

Don't people realise we are in the grips of a serious recession with civil uproar on, almost, every street corner and swine flu everywhere you go ???

Hopefully this growing trend will abruptly cease when the rain comes next week.

Sometimes I despair, I truly do....:'(

PR, I think we should enjoy ourselves to a point of Morris dancing stupidity (not that I'm condoning Morris dancing, although not that there's anything wrong with Morris dancing, necessarily. Most of the time. In context. Out of sight. Mine, mainly.)

While simultaneously ignoring the the creators of signs we don't like to death.

If death don't learn 'em, I don't know what will.

And of course if they're Buddhists make a better job of it next time 'round.

But of course if they're bastards they'll learn nowt.

But you can't expect anything else from bastards, can you?

Brilliant.

And no, it is not a joking matter.

I am really appalled at this. Why, even the workmen working on our block are being happy and doing a good job, giving me no reason to complain.

Which is itself a reason to complain.

Incidentally - when I got back from a road trip round USA last year, I need to 'reclaim my London' as it were, and rode all round central London. Took a photo from the National Gallery of Traf Square and guess what was ruining the photo? The sign stuck in the fountains saying do not play in the fountains!

A re-assurring calm and a certain order has been restored you will be pleased to hear Dear Reader.

Rain is forecast so this will sort out the wheat from the chaff.

Lets see who is singing and laughing and enjoying their Pimms in the rain.

That will learn them.

I have just been on another bike ride with visiting rellie from USA on the back.

We went to Isle of Dogs and Mudchute City Farm and still these people insist on playing and having fun harmlessly and innocently even in the downpours.

And then we rode around Tower Bridge area and Bermondsey and it happened again there.

Some of them were even singing.

My Aunt is shocked. She grew up in London at the end of the war and was delighted to see the war spirit alive and well, although the war is now against the legislation against common sense!

Incidentally, 69 year old Aunty, sat on the back of a motorcycle, having great fun I might add.

YahBoo to those of you who are 'afraid' of bikes!

    • Really interesting discussion here. It's difficult to respect the views of people who support Farage, Trump, Musk etc. Why should we, when their views are deplorable. But then that exact 'deplorable' label, as we know, is counterproductive and drives people to double down / switch off to more progressive views. How do you actually help change minds? We're currently spiralling into dark places culturally and politically imo. The amount of open racism, even amongst front line politicians here and in the US is astounding to me. Feels like we're going backwards. The influence of social media and the tech billionaires / bros, is a powerful and largely malignant one. There was an enlightening (and frightening) bit of journalism by Sky this week about Musk's influence on British politics. He has a strange obsession with the UK and London in particular (as do many on the US right wing): https://news.sky.com/story/the-x-effect-how-elon-musk-is-boosting-the-british-right-13464487

    • I'm going to Paris with friends, staying in the 3rd arrondissement. I used to go a lot but that was ages ago so wondered if anyone has any 'insider tips'? We are interested in small art galleries, independent shops, good value cafes and restaurants that may not feature in all the many online articles or guides, thanks!
