Small, yet vocal and angry, demonstration on the steps of Southwark Town Hall

Recommended Posts

Passing by on a no. 12 this evening, i noticed a banner, a loud-hailer man, some protesters and various Council security officers on the steps of our civic centre.

Can any Council workers, demonstrators or knowledgeable citizens shed some light?

Were they definitely angry? Were they 'protesters'? Could the concil security officers have been forming an audience?

Did anyone at any point here a reference to 'Winchester Cathedral'?

Because whenever I hear about a megaphone and a group of people I instantly associate it with The New Vaudeville Band.

They did seem irate; they did look as if they were protesting against something; the banner was quite large and colourful, but the '12' was moving at a fair old lick and I couldn't make out the lexis on the flag, or hear the slogans/demands from the hailer-man.

Someone must have a clue!?

    • Thanks Sue.  No the car just drove on.  We don't know if they noticed.  We were driving behind.  We were just glad we could be with the cat, and take him to the vet, rather than leaving him there 😞
    • Certainly the infamous (and mythical) SE London cat killer turned out to be foxes attacking dying and dead cats injured by cars, but fox: cat encounters do appear to happen, even where cats are victorious. Fox: adult humans less so. At least where foxes are the aggressors.
    • That was very kind of you to take the cat to the vet. Did the car not stop?
    • This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4.  We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died.  They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so.  They were very kind.   He was a lovely cat, grey and white.  He must have died very quickly.  So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.
