Hi

My ten year old has been playing for about 3 years now on and off. Checked it out and seems really safe and as it's now owned by Disney, I'm sure they've double checked everything as they wouldn't want the bad press! She occasionally arranges to 'meet' friends from school there, but doesn't seem that interested in chatting much to people she doesn't know. She likes to do the missions and buy things for her penguin and igloo. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Yes it's fine - my youngest (10) has been a member for around a year and a half now. If you want to dress the penguins etc. it's a subscription fee of nearly ?4 a month and it seems ok - they keep you informed via e-mail and she seems to enjoy it. You name your penguin and can then interact, chat, dress, get things for the igloo!

I got to hear about it from my great-nephew who was 6 at the time he started to play

My son (5) loves this site. I think it's great too. In any case, if you are concerned, you can always choose not to allow your child to see or write their own messages - pick one of the closed forums when you log on, there's a symbol beside each one. We've spent a lot of time on it, and I've never seen anything untoward, it's well moderated.

It's excellent for helping your child learn to read - for example there's a newspaper with all the latest news/games/jokes. Your child can become a secret agent, which requires your child to read what the penguin spymaster says to complete the mission.

You can play for free, earning virtual money to buy things by playing the games. There are benefits to becoming a member with a subscription, but it's not necessary.

    • Interesting, because I've been going throughout the past few years with different sets of kids and the parents i'm with have always said it's cold. Also spoke to a couple in passing the past weekend and one even said that's why she never brings her 18 month old because it's too cold. Thanks for your feedback. Maybe it's the room temperature that's throwing me off. But the showers are way definitely way warmer than the pool itself.
    • Twice this month I’ve used the PO upstairs at the old WH Smith’s in Forest Hill. Very helpful and efficient with no long wait. But it’s sods law with post office queues, you just never know.
    • I took an item for tracking to Los Angeles having paid postage and customs fee already online to Family Stores in Upland Road. They printed label and custom form from a QR code and all good, present has arrived, and there was no queue. ETA Actually the main reason I posted this is to reassure those who are put off sending gifts to the US because of all the tariff business, like I was, that it is very straightforward
