Travel - 176 & 63 bus TODAY Blackfriars Road/The Cut & Waterloo Rd disruption

Recommended Posts

Major pain getting home tonight

Blackfriar's road was shut from Farringdon to Southwark Tube, took an age to be diverted around Waterloo and then the bus terninated at Peckham Library...

Nice

Then wait for another bus, making an at best 60 minute journey last 90+ mins

That's OK if you have Jeremy Clarkson to look forward to - not so great if you need to get home to the wife and kiddies

BR

'oh well never mind the shooting just the inconvenience to commuters'

i wasn't trying to down play the seriousness of a shooting. Sorry if it came across like that

last time i mentioned travel disruption in the 'general' forum because of a fire in a camberwell estate (in which people died) the msg got 'lounged'. So to keep on topic (i.e. transport) i didn't want emphasise the shooting bit....

I also agree you can walk - but i thought it would be useful to those who maybe can't walk or could easily take an alternative route..

it was just meant to be a helpful post for those travelling home yesterday.

R&A

The message was a big help to me yesterday as well - thanks R&A - the road was still closed at 6:30 so I popped across to Waterloo and my journey time wasn't affected at all really

The bus driver was at pains to point out to everyone on the south side of Blackfriars bridge about the problems and that the bus would be diverting so anyone who wanted to get off now should get off now - and only when the bus turned down towards Waterloo did everyone look up and start shouting at the poor fella. You can lead a horse to water etc...

R&A my walking comment wasn't directed at you. It's helpful to know when there are travel problems.

My comment was more about those who complain such events. It happens, no point getting grrr over the things you have no control over,

Don't be put off by past responses on other threads. You did good here :))

    • Thanks Penguin. It could be a coincidence. But after years of road safety being on the local agenda they finally put the crossings in months before Dulwich Estates regain the lease on The Grove.   The Estate understands there is strong local interest in improving this area and we hope to be in a position to share some exciting updates in the near future. The temporary skatepark will remain unaffected. “Temporary skatepark” is telling.
    • Back to my earlier post about familiarity.  I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations.  Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street.  Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun.  Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough.  How wrong was I?  Only real pub left in the area.
    • Wow Sue! I was reading your post with interest as I’ve never really felt unsafe in London and I was born here. It was just your last paragraph that derailed me and totally changed the subject matter! So unnecessary.
