An update on the East Dulwich street art, part of Dulwich Outdoor Gallery https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/exhibit/dulwich-outdoor-gallery-tour/QQiKMDYR . The Plough wall that used to have the bee, but has been blank for some months, is going to be painted from Sunday by Mad C http://madc.tv/ , a German girl. It will be based on 'Venetia, Lady Digby' by van Dyck. It will be mainly abstract using the colours and form of the original, with one figurative object which is the crux of the story behind the portrait.

Also Pablo Delgado will be around on Sunday putting up more paste ups along Lordship Lane.

Both have/will have solo shows in central London. Pablo's is on now at the Howard Griffin Gallery in Shoreditch High Street http://howardgriffingallery.com/exhibitions/opens-tomorrow-morning/ and Mad C's at Pure Evil Gallery at 108 Leonard St, London EC2 http://www.pureevilclothing.com/ starting on Oct 1st.

The wall had terrible damp and the owners, a charity, had to renovate it, so destroying the bee. They were sad about it too. But they are happy with the new design.

Ah, OK, thanks.

I probably already knew that.

yes, that's the one. Can you see the links between the wall and the painting? The perfectly represented all significant rose while the rest is abstracted on the wall.

Who is it that would spoil other's enjoyment by doing that sort of thing? And why do it?? Unlike works of art in museums, street art is not guarded or protected. There is a wonderful trust in that and its everybody's art. Grrrr.

I may be able to get the artist to do something about it...

    • I'm interested to know why you say that? They both sell the same kind of thing, they both have own brand products, and unless I've got it completely wrong, they both seem to be trying to attract the same kind of customer? I would have thought a Waitrose and an M&S so close to each other would have split the customer base (?not sure of the correct term) for both of them? People might shop in both, but I'd have thought each store would still lose out on sales?
    • I thought of going to the States for the World Cup.  But I just can't - Trump, the nonsense of entering the States and what UEFA has done to the sport including enlarging the competition and selling out to Gulf/Middle East States has put me off. I found an article on the likely move of some European football overseas which prompted me to start the thread https://thefsa.org.uk/news/uefa-gives-go-ahead-for-overseas-competitive-fixtures/
    • Unfortunately we can see from the history of the Israel -Palestine situation that a peace accord now won't necessarily lead to long-term peace and statehood for the Palestinians. This has been going on for decades, ever since the Palestine authority gave refugee status to Jews fleeing the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s. Britain has a shameful role in handing the problem on to the League of Nations and since then the world has watched on and done nothing or very little.
