Help with attaching pics to threads

Can anyone help me? I want to add a pic to a new thread and no idea how to do it... Also if I put a thread up how come I didn't get a red 'new'? Any help in very simple English much appreciated.

This may be the wrong place to ask but seemed the chattiest section...

Click on the icon that has two mountains and a sun - follow the instructions that pop up.

The icons appear above the 'post a message' box that you type in.

Not sure about red new thing - perhaps if you are the author it doesn't show on your computer.

To attach and embed an image, first attach the image (see below) then edit the post to add an HTML link that points to the URL of the attached image, which can be found by 'right-clicking' and 'copy shortcut' on the attachment. The HTML code looks like this:

Which embeds the attachment thus:

Hello I'm hijaking this thread to practice attaching a photo because I'm having a dumb moment!

When I press the attach image button it says Please enter the URL of the image you want to add but it's on my desktop so doesn't have a URL I'm using firefox 3.5.3 on a mac if that makes any difference. Any advice would be lovely. Thanks

Click "Edit" on your post with the image. Then open up that image and C&P the url. That is the image url you insert.

Sorry, first you must attach the image from your desktop using the "Attach a file" button. Then do the above.

1. Attach your image using the attach a file button.

2. Save your post.

3. Open the attachment in a new window/tab

4. Copy the url from that window.

5. Now edit your post, click on the mountains image and insert the url you have just copied

6. Save changes

I tend to use a dedicated site like flickr for the file storage as it eases the load on the forum and saves them money in the long run, but no big deal ifthe pics are ickle like.
