Hi I've just had someone knock at my door saying they are from a company called spencers and want to talk to me about fish and meat. He was young and seemed nervous and said he wasn't selling anything was just a student trying to gain confidence talking about good food for Spencers. Has anyone else had this? and does anyone know what its all about?

ive just googled it and didnt see anything and spencers has never been mentioned on here.

how did you feel about it? if you felt it was suspicious call the local police. not to worry you but potential burglers have been known to knock on the door to see if anyone was home. it probably wasnt that but if you're worried about it....

I've had someone knock on my door last weekend saying they were from a company from Spencers. They apparently sell pre-made food or something to that extent. His van with the company name was parked on my street for a while as he made his way door to door. Sadly, I had to be really curt with him as I had screaming children in the background wanting their tea. Seemed legit, just an annoying time to call on someone.

I told the c*nt what I thought of him and c*nted him off good and proper.

I made it clear were he ever to blemish my doorstep again I'd get BigBadWolf to punch his face for him and see how he liked it.

He left my stoop paler than when he arrived, I'll tell thee that f' nowt.

Yes - we had the same chap at our door this afternoon - he was very friendly and the food boxes looked good quality. We bought some salmon fillets as a 'tester' and will see how we get on before ordering more if they are good.

Good to give small businesses a chance who try and do something a bit different methinks..

He came on Saturday, just after I'd got back from Sainsbury's. Though I'd told him I didn't have the space for trays of frozen food in my freezer, he brought them in to show me. I was quite impressed and thought that if I did have the freezer space I would be interested. He was very friendly but did look a bit dejected when I said I didn't want anything, after nearly 25mins. I'd definitely consider it for parties and the like, though.

I agree, although it's sometimes inconveniant to have hawkers knocking on your door, I cant fault a man who is [prepared to do this work to earn an honest living. Especially if they have to put up with this rubbish.

    • You'd need to get a proper quote (or three) for instance removing a cast iron bath is a very different job from removing an acrylic one. Again what pipe work will be being joined into - matching old imperial pipes with modern metric ones is different from like to like, as is dealing with a copper or an iron distribution system. The amount (area) of retiling required is an issue, as will be the state of the wall behind the tiles. It may of course all be very plain sailing, or not. Have a first look at plumber recommendations on the relevant pages on this site. If it's all easy then 3 days work may be sufficient. But it could be a week if there are snags.
    • Hi. Can anyone suggest a plumber for the job below? Replace bath tub with a shower enclosure, putting pipes to showerhead behind wall, re-titling damaged/removed tiles Also any idea of the costs involved for the labour as we will buy the items required?
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
