Eastern Delight Chinese

Tonight I went again to Eastern Delight Chinese in East Dulwich Road, more or less opposite Tesco Express. Had won ton soup and quarter peking duck. And again, it was delicious, and service fantastic. But, on a Saturday evening, I was the only person there, though many came in for takeaway. What's going on? They deserve better than this as our only Chinese restaurant, surely.

OK, I've had a look - two people saying they had a bad meal there.

I'm not saying it's good or bad - I've not been there. But it's not like there are pages and pages of bad reviews, as you get for some places, is it?

Let's face it, most bog standard Chinese restaurants of this type are awful. The long departed Chopsticks was good but now the only good Chinese food in the area that I know of is Silk Road in Camberwell (but it's not standard British Chinese fare.) Happy to be directed to another good one but Mr Liu is pretty poor.

Thanks Pam, I will definitely try their Sechuan menu but we had other things from there not long ago and it wasn't great :-(

I'm tempted to give it a go on the grounds that I tend not to take any notice of what people on here write.

Probably a bit down market for most..

... But its a long walk from the pub and then back home and Chinese food gets cold quick..

... and not good when reheated.

Eating Chinese in is ok when in a group and food is shared.. but not really suitable for solo dining as is Curry..

Hallo Dulwich Fox,

I have never been tempted to be amongst your detractors. However your post above was so dismissive of the contributors to this forum. It made me wonder why you spend so long reading and contributing to a forum where you "tend not to take any notice of what people on here write. "

He lives in a parallel universe Pam

You'll get used to it, best ignore his contrarian ways as they're an attention seeking device

I go there occasionally if I fancy something greasy and MSG-laden. There are two really excellent Vietnamese resaurants in CAmberwell if you're up for travelling a tad further. One is open daytime only (near Kings Hosp) and the other is near the Leisure centre.

I was being positive but peoples selective reading detracts from that..

I draw my own conclusions about any restaurant business based on my own experiences and feelings.

and consequently will pass comment on Eastern Delight should I ever visit the place.

I seem to remember going there many years ago but was probably called something different back then.

It was memorable for all the wrong reasons.. It was cr*p

I'd point to the thread about Platform One when it opened under its previous name as evidence that this assertion is pure nonsense.

What are you talking about...

My comments on the said place were about my objections to the vulgar suggestive original name..

and it's outward appearance with its blanked out windows. Both of which have been addressed since my remarks.

Not about the quality of the food.

This thread is about Eastern Delight and about how good the food is...

You need to get up a bit earlier..

Foxy.

Anyone looking at that thread would draw a different conclusion in the light of your curmudgeonly ramblings.

No it wasn't, it was bloody awful :))

ETA: I imagine that's why it closed, because other people thought so as well ....
