The general Met number for Southwark is

0300 123 1212

Opening Hours: 06:00-22:00 Mon - Sun

and I guess they'd put you through to the relevant people

Thanks for the replies. Am seeing people obviously casing out houses on our street on a regular basis, and people knocking on doors asking for people who have never lived in the street, then walking to a different street on being told wrong door number. I used to work with attempting to rehabilitate ex career convicts, and can usually spot a career criminal a mile off. Will be getting in touch with the local force from now on, shame they sold up and moved out of ED though. A real shame, our local Police were a good lot.

I can support this. I'm working at home most days now and have had several callers in daytime asking for people who clearly don't stay here before moving down the street. Not middle class paranoia - just blatant casing. The last guy looked like the Notorious BIG with a red baseball cap, phat jeans and a bandanda.

Then on Sat morning we watched fascinated as someone broke into a car on our street - phoned Peckham nick as it happened (ED closed which sucks).- but not heard back. There's no fear! Broad daylight, stuck his hand through the window, strolled (yes STROLLED) round to the other side, got in, jump started it and away - all in under 2mins.

To be honest I don't think they are targeting one part of ED more than another SCSB....I've never understood that particular forum sentiment. Pretty much any street with 2/3 empty houses during the day and high value goods inside, next to a much poorer inner urban area with high unemployment, drug probs etc is an open invitation.

    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
    • My memory, admittedly not very reliable these days, places the shop on the block on the left hand side just before Burgess Park going towards Camberwell. Have also found a reference to Franklins Antiques being located at 157 Camberwell Road which is on that block. This is a screen shot obtained from Google maps of that address which accords with my memory except the entrance door was on the right hand side, where the grey door is, rather than in the centre.
