90% of people are shit, fixed that for you. Looking at the attitudes of people in ED, there seems to be a regional fluctuation where its 99% of ED residents being shit.

Just had a courier come to my door with a mobile phone with my exact address, but addressed to Mr Mohammed [surname witheld]. The courier said that this is now a common fraud, and he has had 20 or so packages like this recently in ED. Apparently, someone pays for the goods with a fake/compromised credit card online, tracks the progress of the package using a smart phone then waits outside the address they have used until the driver has delivered the package. Then they turn up at the door with a story about "just having moved to this street" and "used the wrong door nu". They then try and take the phone from you after spinning their lame little deceit and drive off. Meanwhile, a day or so later, you get stung with the bill for the item, having signed and accepted it. Just thought it may be worth mentioning here. I'll be letting the local Police know too.

Why not just build a hackintosh and save a ton of cash? The build itself shouldn't take more than 60-90 minutes, and the OS install another 45, and its way easier to do than it was a year ago...

Sweet! How did you find the staff there? Also, you probably know this, but if you want to install XP onto a SATA drive, those drivers usually need slipstreaming, or be accessible via a thumb drive put into floppy mode. Hope you have fun with the new beast

Thanks for the replies. Am seeing people obviously casing out houses on our street on a regular basis, and people knocking on doors asking for people who have never lived in the street, then walking to a different street on being told wrong door number. I used to work with attempting to rehabilitate ex career convicts, and can usually spot a career criminal a mile off. Will be getting in touch with the local force from now on, shame they sold up and moved out of ED though. A real shame, our local Police were a good lot.

Anyone know the local number for the Police who cover ED now? Saw some bastads casing out several cars today, but had no idea which number to call...

As we don't get Newegg over here, nor Bic-Camera, in my experience, Yoyotech are your best bet for service and price, and after-sales trouble shooting. They do a reserve via web and pick up in store, where you pay a percentage on-line, and the rest in store for web prices, erm, in store. Speak to Gangster there, nice sikh bloke with glasses, if you wield cash in your hand, he can save you a LOT of money, well he saved me a few hundred last time I went mad in there. I7 does seem to run rather hot, so be sure to get a nice PSU, and even consider some water cooling for it, the new AMD chips, as usual run a fair bit cooler, and are that much cheaper. As for video editing, despite being a die hard pc builder, and I really hate the no-brains OS, after you've used Final Cut Pro, I doubt you'll ever want to edit video on a pc ever again, its just painful [that old Motion studio with the funky control was just about bearable I suppose]. Search around, you may well be able to recycle some of your old parts and build a "hackintosh"....Best of both worlds then. Have fun building, and post a pic of your internal set up here when done, nothing like a nice bit of silicon-porn to start the morning...
