Thanks! So is it likely he will turn up as the only pirate/superhero whatever and most/all other kids will be vampires frankenstein scary type things?

Dont want him to feel left out or get laughed at, but maybe at 3 1/2 he would be too young to notice? Hm...

Aww, Thanks all, he wants to go as "pirate jake" so lets go with that. Fingers crossed he wont change his mind. Have an unpleasant memory of me being laughed at as a child at a fancy dress thing but we were much older.

Note to self to stop projecting own neurotic behavious on to child...

Precious first born syndrome anyone?

I believe this came up in a thread here years ago but when I was about 5 or 6 my mum made me dress up for a party as a poacher, complete with my soft toy bunnies stripped of their clothes and strung upside down with garden twine from a pole.

It wasn't even Halloween, just a regular kids birthday party. Everyone else went as a princess.

Just to say that I happen to be in California this Halloween and people are dressing up as whatever. The funniest sight I saw was a guy pushing a baby in a buggy with a unicorn head piece and unicorn hooves. We heard his wife saying to him can you see darling" and his plaintive reply, " I can just about see you". Let's hope it never comes to that in North Cross road.

I don't usually come into the family bit, but glad I did, that made me laugh so much (though also I really felt for you) :)

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
