Azira
I'm really sad to hear this Ali. I'm sure you've already tried this, but your GP should be able to provide you with advice about this from what I understand (a former colleague had this too). Good luck! Pugwash
I am not clear as to what age you are, but have you had an assessment from Social Services. If you are eligible for assistance ( from your comments you are likely to be) you can have help at home provided by the council or have a personal budget to purchase your own carers. If you need placement - you are talking in excess of ?800 per week.Do you need nursing care or residential care? Ali56
Hi PugwashI am 59.At the moment I have 3 care visits a day.I have had MS for 34 years and can just about manage but would be looking for residential/nursing car e.Would have to sell my house to finance this care. Pugwash
You will need to ask social services for a full assessment of your needs and whether these needs can only be met in a care home setting. If you have less than ?23,250 in savings and are eligible for placement, you can request 12 weeks interim payment by SS and then ask for a deferred payment. If you are going to sell your house SS will assist with fees until such time property is sold and they can be repaid. At the moment in South London, there are very few placements - out of 11 homes contacted today only one had a vacancy and the others had long waiting lists.Could you have a live in carer? Or supplement the 3 visits you get with private carerIn the Crystal Palace/Sydenham area there is Westwood House NH but fees are around ?1000 plus per week, Leonard Cheshire Home Athol House - not aware of fees, and in Norwood - Fairlee House which is also over ?1000 pw Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/81115-care-home-wanted-for-woman-with-ms/#findComment-921474 Share on other sites
Ali56
Thank yu so much Pugwash for all the information.I have no savings so live in care is not an option. Also as I can't stand easily I need 2 people each care visit so would be unable to afford private care on top of 3 visits.I have spent some time in the British Home which is a well run home so would probably choose to go there f I am unable to find another home.Additonaly they have vacancies.I am still hoping to improve though and remain positive!Thank you once again for all your help.
