Thanks Mands

I have contacted them and they were a bit useless!

I have spent some time in the British Home near Crown Point and it was great there but am just looking for other options before making my final decision.

Thanks for your help though

I am not clear as to what age you are, but have you had an assessment from Social Services. If you are eligible for assistance ( from your comments you are likely to be) you can have help at home provided by the council or have a personal budget to purchase your own carers.

If you need placement - you are talking in excess of ?800 per week.

Do you need nursing care or residential care?

You will need to ask social services for a full assessment of your needs and whether these needs can only be met in a care home setting. If you have less than ?23,250 in savings and are eligible for placement, you can request 12 weeks interim payment by SS and then ask for a deferred payment. If you are going to sell your house SS will assist with fees until such time property is sold and they can be repaid. At the moment in South London, there are very few placements - out of 11 homes contacted today only one had a vacancy and the others had long waiting lists.

Could you have a live in carer? Or supplement the 3 visits you get with private carer

In the Crystal Palace/Sydenham area there is Westwood House NH but fees are around ?1000 plus per week, Leonard Cheshire Home Athol House - not aware of fees, and in Norwood - Fairlee House which is also over ?1000 pw

Thank yu so much Pugwash for all the information.

I have no savings so live in care is not an option.

Also as I can't stand easily I need 2 people each care visit so would be unable to afford private care on top of 3 visits.

I have spent some time in the British Home which is a well run home so would probably choose to go there f I am unable to find another home.

Additonaly they have vacancies.

I am still hoping to improve though and remain positive!

Thank you once again for all your help.

    • It's surprising though that they (France in particular) don't seem to have been paying attention to this side of the Channel and seen how a right wing populist Gov has trashed the UK. That if you vote for 'simple solutions to complex problems' like what Brexit promised, you end up with simpletons in charge. Who then proceed to drive out what remains of any competence/experience to  create an, ecosystem of incompetency for no other reason than they 'believe', promoting the likes of Lee Anderson to party Chair and Truss and Sunak to PM. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?!..
    • I am back from holiday and just seeing this. This is Zuzia, and she lives with her owner on Lacon Rd. She found her way home safely. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
    • That is correct, the collection and delivery operations are separate - the delivery operations work from Delivery Office (DOs) - such as Peckham - whereas collection goes directly to Sorting Offices. What is true however is that there are more daily collections from Post Boxes associated with Main and sub Post Offices - so if you need something to go urgently using one of these will get your post to a sorting Office quicker. [A confusion can arise because the final sort of post into 'walks' is done at the DOs - but post collected from boxes does not go to DOs directly].
