Senor Chevalier
I've just been told off by an objectionable woman for disposing of an old paint can in my green general waste bin. I asked her if I wasn't supposed to do that and what I was supposed to do with it. Apparently I should know better but evidently I don't. I pointed out that she obviously knew what to do and it would be more constructive if she pointed me in the right direction but she just sloped off. A short burst on the Southwark website hasn't helped. Could anyone spare a moment to tell me where it goes?Failing that does anyone want a collection of miscellaneous paint? DulwichFox
Take it to Devon Street Depot. Tell the staff there that the tins are not empty and they will take them and dispose of them . Don't forget to take proof of you living in Southwark. pipsky2008
What happens to tinned paint when it is taken to a recycling centre, can anyone say? Louisa
Green waste is not the place for paint tins! You're not the first nor most likely the last person I've confronted on this issue. Louisa. nxjen
About 20 years ago I phoned Southwark Council helpline regarding the disposal of some old paint. The advice I received was astounding. I was told the paint couldn't go in the general waste as the tins may burst and spill over the operatives. If I couldn't take it to the depot then I could either:(a) leave it out with the lid off so that the paint would solidify and then it would be OK to put in the general waste(b) pour the paint down the drain. As I type this I find it unbelievable I was given such advice but I swear it's true. Hopefully training has improved since then. (I eventually took the half empty tins to the depot, then in Manor Place) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/81261-disposal-of-old-paints/#findComment-921966 Share on other sites
