In Family Guy it is Dancing in the Streets (Bowie and Jagger) which looking back is truly embarrassing - they use a not particularly PC description on FG due to all the floucing around.

I thought of starting this thread after watching BBC4 last Friday on cover versions. The first programme was on covers that were as good (if not better) than the originals.

This was followed by an awful 'covers on the BBC' programme with some pretty dreadful poptastic songs and videos. The one that really got me (the cover that should be put back in the I Hate 1981 Box) was Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin - the former Motown hit 'It's my Party'. What a horrid version but worse still was the skinny keyboard player with some bizarre semi bondage leather top with side straps and buckles. Urggggh yuckkk.

That was bad. As was Cheryl Crow's Sweet child.

The Bowie / Jagger vid is probably the worst ever music video. I can't think of anything that can match it in terms of pure cringe worthy rubbishness, but there have been some ludicrous ones over the years. As a teenager I loved the big budget extravagant Guns n' roses videos to songs like "November Rain". I look at them now and cringe.

The "Don't Cry" vid is still pretty cool though.

My tuppence worth comes in the form of this 1981 classic from Kiki Dee, "Star". Probably best remembered as the theme tune to Bob Monkhouse's Opportunity Knocks. Take note of the bored popcorn eaters at 37 seconds in, behind Kiki, I do miss the 80's terribly.

Louisa.

I think this thread is dead as I peeped at the song for the weekend thread where there are some pretty frightening vids. IF you are quick you will see the ladies in leotards and the blokes in tight and bright football kits, with matching 70s hair. Dunno what the song was if anyone can find out.

Obviously the best vid in the world is Johnny Cash - Hurt. Various ones of NIN doing 'their' song are also superb.

If you are using a shop which doesn't give an itemised receipt, or doesn't give a receipt at all, just be aware that it might be a good idea to check that you are not paying over the odds (and if using cash, that you are given the right change for what you handed over). When staff are busy they might make mistakes.
    • As I had a moan on here about the truly abysmal Christmas meal we had at The Cherry Tree last year, I am redressing the balance by saying we had a really excellent Christmas meal at Franklins last night. Every course was absolutely delicious and  really well cooked. The staff were lovely despite being exhausted and run off their feet. In particular, my sea bass was a large portion and cooked to perfection, in stark contrast to the small dried up portion The Cherry Tree provided, from which I was barely able to scrape a teaspoonful of flesh (that is not an exaggeration). And our Franklins meal cost less than half what we paid at The Cherry Tree (to be fair, that was on Christmas Day so the Cherry Tree costs would have been higher, but that doesn't excuse the appalling quality meal). Thank you again to Franklins for restoring our faith in eating out at Christmas!
