mockney piers
I hav to say that the similarities with Yo La Tengo were uncanny. I'll never understand why they're barely kmown whilst the Pixies are 'overated'. The vagaries of the modern world huh? Actually, I always (perhaps controversially) preferred Sugar, but Husker Du had some great songs. You need to get past the tinny production though. Brendan
I was actually listening to Copper Blue on the way to work this morning. Pixies lat night must have had some sort or early 90s subliminal effect on me. Bloody good album. Brendan
Although perhaps not surprising when I think about it. If I'm honest abot it when it comes to music I do sort of live in the past. Yo La Tengo tend to opt for the more laid back and low profile approach (saw them live at Somerset House a few years back - superb and plenty of feedback - have ticket for Roundhouse next month). Fear 'n boozin
Well surely the devil has to be six, given that's his number an all that. God is seven clearly applies to Le God. The Pixies are Siants fans don't chya know. Keef
Okay, so we went, and I have to say they were really bloody good.Fear N Boozing and I, being us, started in the pub, then wandered round to the academy just before 9. The queue was still large, so we nipped round the corner and bought some tinnies, and some favourite fried chicken. After necking all that, we went in during about the 3rd song.Band very loud, and very tight, good sound.Monkey gone to heaven came on, I cheered because I knew it, and I sang along.Couple of other tunes came on throughout the set that I remembered jumping around to at The Venue when I was 14.Negatives... Well, Brixton, which used to be my favourite venue, just packs too many people in these days, it was uncomfortably busy. The band went off just after 10, and milked a good 5 minutes of applause before coming back and doing 2 songs, then going off for another 5 minutes, before coming back and doing another 2 songs, they went off again, and were clearly going to come back, but we'd had enough of standing around waiting by then, so we left and got a cab back for a quick pint at the CPT before bed.Good night, and good band, but there is only so long you can listen to songs you don't know, however good they may be. It has though, made me decide to listen to a bit of Pixies, and I'll probably try and see them next time they decide to do some gigs for some cash.I just wish they'd played a full set, gone off for a couple of minutes, then come on and played a couple of encores at the end. Going off a load of times, and milking it just annoys me.Wicked guitarist!
