Got a lot of DK and Black Flag in there too which is something I've never really picked up on just listening to the albums.

Yeah, me neither.

I think you'll find you're wrong! Actually, I always (perhaps controversially) preferred Sugar, but Husker Du had some great songs. You need to get past the tinny production though.

Or something to do with the personalities involved. Yo La Tengo tend to opt for the more laid back and low profile approach (saw them live at Somerset House a few years back - superb and plenty of feedback - have ticket for Roundhouse next month).

Okay, so we went, and I have to say they were really bloody good.

Fear N Boozing and I, being us, started in the pub, then wandered round to the academy just before 9. The queue was still large, so we nipped round the corner and bought some tinnies, and some favourite fried chicken. After necking all that, we went in during about the 3rd song.

Band very loud, and very tight, good sound.

Monkey gone to heaven came on, I cheered because I knew it, and I sang along.

Couple of other tunes came on throughout the set that I remembered jumping around to at The Venue when I was 14.

Negatives... Well, Brixton, which used to be my favourite venue, just packs too many people in these days, it was uncomfortably busy. The band went off just after 10, and milked a good 5 minutes of applause before coming back and doing 2 songs, then going off for another 5 minutes, before coming back and doing another 2 songs, they went off again, and were clearly going to come back, but we'd had enough of standing around waiting by then, so we left and got a cab back for a quick pint at the CPT before bed.

Good night, and good band, but there is only so long you can listen to songs you don't know, however good they may be. It has though, made me decide to listen to a bit of Pixies, and I'll probably try and see them next time they decide to do some gigs for some cash.

I just wish they'd played a full set, gone off for a couple of minutes, then come on and played a couple of encores at the end. Going off a load of times, and milking it just annoys me.

Wicked guitarist!

    • In answer to your question Pugwash, the variety of foods that they offer both in canned goods and fresh. i personally no longer am a Sainsbury customer after years - feel that the quality of both their fruit, veg and fresh products ie meat, chicken, fish is not of a quality that they use to be. Agree with Sue that Co- Op does not make for a pleasant shopping experience.  On the subject of Waitrose not coming to ED - one can only assume that market research has been done by the company which makes it a non starter which, when you think about it is strange as all the big contenders are here.. Perhaps the powers to be have never heard of ED!! Maybe a Lidl or Aldi will rear their heads but somehow can’t see it as space is way to small. Really is strange that Waitrose is a non arrival - never ceases to amaze me how many eateries are in Lordship Lane alone and the majority all survive.
