Hiya, I'm looking for a baby carrier for my baby as we are going away for 3 weeks in December to Thailand... We are not taking a pram. We will mainly use it for when we are doing lots of walking, visiting markets and generally when her little legs get tired. We're going to Chiang Mai, Bangkok and the islands.

Does anyone have any recommendations? As we are only using for this trip I don't really want to splash out.

She's around 10kg at the mo and it will be mid to late 20's when we're out there do nothing too thick.

Thanks in advance!

ergobaby do a light version of their sling... maybe its the sport one? not sure!

you could get a back carrier like a hiking one but we found at that age it was easier to control curious people touching our son, and he could hide away a bit easier, if he was on the front.

got so sweaty anyway it didn't seem to make a difference!

i would def consider a pram for naps though, so you can sit while she naps (assuming she will nap in a pram)

also recommend take an umbrella for shade so you don't have to faff about with hats.

edited to add that we had no problems with Thai people who were lovely with our son and always sought his permission before touching him. it was tour groups we had the issue with, had to literally jump in front of them to stop them picking him up or grabbing / touching him.

Hi everyone!

Thanks so much for your comments, I will definitely look into hiring the Connecta Solar Weave - I can't see that we will need it for any future trips so better than buying (plus as someone mentioned seems to be sold out everywhere!) Didn't even know there was such a thing as a sling library so that is super helpful!

@Convex - we might take a really lightweight stroller but the thought makes me shudder, I prefer to travel light and when we went to Greece in July we didn't take a pram, and we were fine. Ok when I say fine I mean I'd eat my dinner one handed with baby sleeping on my lap LOL. Maybe we will take one....

Why did the tour groups keep trying to pick up your son??!! Do you mean other tourists...? Why do people do that, I find that so strange!

I love the connecta - and I would say that even normal connectas are good as they are lightweight and not as sweaty as other slings might be- but you could use any sling and put a mulsin between you and baby to stop you getting sticky. Or, Beco Soleil are supposed to be good in hot weather too.

If you end up buying a sling you'll be able to sell it for 90% of what you paid!

@MP, i have no idea, it was really strange, we had to give up being polite at times. but it really was just tour groups. because he is blond and blue eyed lots of people wanted to pinch his cheek (is considered good luck) but most people were respectful and didnt push it if he didnt respond to them.

and he loved the attention he got overall, he definitely noticed when we were back in a western company that he didnt have the same attention.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that I visited the South London Sling Library today and have borrowed the Connecta Weave as suggested. I seems great so can't wait to try it out on holiday.

Thanks for all your help, I didn't know this library existed!

    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
    • Have used Milk and More for years. When the price went up we cancelled a couple of pints but we still have 8 pints a week. If we are expecting family etc we buy from Sainsburys to top up. We kept on with M & M as if weather bad we could order extra stuff from them to save us a trip to Sainsburys Local. Also gives employment to our milkman.
    • Hi there, Our Lexus NX300H, (reg RF18BWO) was stolen off our driveway last night, Monday 27th October. It was there at 9pm, and had gone by 7am. If anyone has any footage on their doorbell or Ring, that would be super helpful. We have asked some neighbours and reported to the police etc.  Most upsettingly, there was a box of old family videos in the car boot, in an old Sainsburys box (photo attached). If anyone sees these dumped at the side of the road, please contact me asap! They are priceless videos that my deceased grandparents took. Thank you for any info, Jojo
