Anyone got some good suggestions for inexpensive stocking fillers for a 5 year old boy? My son loves Lego, rock music, superheroes, Star Wars. His Christmas list is very short and influenced by adverts he sees on TV for crappy plastic stuff. I'm worried I'm going to get to just before Christmas and realise I haven't got him much. No such problems with my 8 year old daughter!

I go for a lot of toilet humour with my two (4 and 6) - in previous years there have been whoopee cushions and fake poos. A couple of friends have secured "Fart whistles" from Amazon which I'm now thinking I should look into!

I've also gone for a little wind up torch from Just Williams, and a pencil case to keep all his bits in. Tiger/ Hema really good for stocking stuff.

There are loads of party bag supplies on Amazon which double up as good stocking fillers - and Yellow Moon do tonnes of nice superhero things, I had some for my son's 4th birthday party which was superhero themed. Things like superhero rubber ducks for the bath etc.

Thanks. Whoopee cushion is a good call. I think he bought a fart whistle once with his pocket money but it was disappointing! I was also thinking a trip to Hema in Victoria would be a good idea, so will do that too.

I just bought my nearly 5 yr old boy a Make Your Own Bouncy Balls kit from

Early learning/Mothercare for ?2.50. Other stocking fillers include a ruler with his name on, a thing called a Foamee which I'd never heard of but I'm sure all the kids have seen in TV ads, basically like a pot of bubbles but blows out a line of foam and a couple of individual Hot Wheels cars....

    • Hi, I am from the Southwark Day Centre and could collect some apples if I am. It too late... Bettina
    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?
    • I don’t think anyone has mentioned Peckham FoodCycle yet, they might enjoy some apples! https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-peckham-saturdays/
    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
