I've left it ridiculously late to buy christening presents for my niece and nephew (christening is Sunday, eek!) - but have a vague idea it'd be nice to get Beatrix Potter/Bunnikins mugs, as we had them as kids and used them for years. Anyone know if they can be found in East D anywhere? Or any other ideas v welcome!

The card shop (V-something) near Green and Blue has various nice children's crockery, e.g. Elmer, ED has the very hungry caterpillar!

The Ceramics place near Goose Green takes a week or so to come back once you have done the painting, may take longer in the run-up to Christmas.

Belle - a nice idea is a picture of dawn on the day the children were born via www.myfirstday.co.uk - someone bought me one for my 2nd baby and I love it - they write the baby's name and date on the mount too - so for example "Molly's first day, 17th November 2009"....

You wouldn't have it in time for the event itself, but it would be sent to them, and you could give them a card to say that is what is coming.

I think it is so lovely as it is something I can enjoy now (it's up in the baby's room), but can pass on to her one day. The pictures are all taken on the beach, in Cornwall with sun rising, very beautiful - you can view them on line and pick the one you like the best from the relevant date.

Molly - I ordered one of the 1st day photos for my cousin's son's birth - they absolutely love it! Thanks for the recommendation, I saw it a while ago on another christening post

Another recommendation for the card shop (Greetings?) near Green and Blue, does lot of lovely baby bits and pieces

That's great Lorraine, I met them at the Baby Show last year and really liked them - husband and wife, small business - he gets up at dawn every day to take the photos (said since having kids of their own he was often awake anyway).

Just thought it was a very clever concept, and with a week old baby made me quite emotional seeing the images of dawn on her birth day....damn those hormones!!!!!

ooh that is a lovely idea, esp as I know my niece would have been born around dawn. Will look into it. Didn't manage to find the elusive beatrix potter mugs today but am in town on sat by some blue moon-fluke so will scope out there too.
Molly - I never checked out what Iris' birth day photo looks like, am off to investigate! Lou mentioned what to buy her for xmas this year. I said let's just re-wrap last year's xmas presents which he didn't like the idea of, so maybe we'll get her a photo as it has a bit more meaning than the fluffy toys we got her last christmas!

Good thinking, though I reckon maybe if you wrap up a box of toilet roll or a box of tissues she might have a LOT of fun...just think, tissues to pull out and rip up, paper to scrunch AND a huge box to climb in and out off...that's Christmas for most 12 to 18 month year olds sorted! LOL.

Molly

Ooh i've never given her a box to climb in and out of - that was one of my fave things to do as a nipper. i WOULD give her the box of tissues, but she would happily munch through most of it too. Bombi and C definitely have the tissue munching in common!

Bombi will also have loads of fun demolishing my mum's xmas tree.

    • Another recommendation for Dulwich Test and Services Centre. Only been using them for a couple of years but wish I’d found them earlier
    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
    • It's not really though, is it. It's practical.  At least we're allowed Christmas lights.
