My brother runs the Antigallican pub in Charlton and I often take the bus from there to Peckham and walk the rest of the way. That isn't how I'd want to end a night after a gig of course, but if all else fails in the post-gig rush it's worth bearing in mind

There plenty of cabs at the taxi rank by the station, but I have seen queues of over a hundred people waiting by the time I finish, with more joining all the time.

If you get out literally as soon as the event is finished - don't hang around to use the toilet/buy merchandise etc - you won't have to wait very long.

I went to see Pearl Jam at the O2 in August and got a cab home after the show - there are little stands inside the venue where you can book one - we had to wait for about 5 minutes but the driver comes to the booth to collect you and takes you to the cab which is pretty much near the main entrance. The cost was ?22 and we were lucky enough that another couple was heading back to ED so we shared the cab and halved the cost. Definitely worth doing!
If it was me I'd book a local taxi company to pick you up somewhere near the 02. Its 10 quid from ed to greenwich, so would be what? ?15 from 02 to ed. By booking a local one to meet you at a certain time you avoid the ovbious huge queues for the 'o2' taxis at the end.

Whats this post got to do with the 185.............
