amac
Hi there, I've created a website of eight walks within 40 minutes' drive (or train journey from Nunhead), of East Dulwich. They are mainly in the Shoreham (Kent) area. Hope it's useful for those who don't know the beautiful nearby countryside too well. It's at https://localkentwalks.wordpress.com/I enclose a picture taken from one of the walks last month Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/88152-great-walks-in-countryside-near-east-dulwich/ Share on other sites

Borderlands
Such a good idea. Excellent. There's a couple of good walks going out Surrey-Kent border near Farthing Down, Old Coulsdon that you might like to investigate. johnie
Just got back after doing (some of) the Shoreham Circular Walk 2. We had to cut it short as the light was going, but thanks for the great guide, very easy to follow, well done! Lovely village I had no idea existed. Goodliz
Thank you. This is great as I am not from the South East originally but often feel the need to get out into the countryside and can't think where to go. Looking forward to trying one of the routes. There are quite a few books with titles like "Country walks near London" and "Walks in the Country Near London", plus there are also walks within London which are almost like being in the country, eg along the Thames between Richmond and Kew.Also Sydenham Hill Woods, just up the road, though they're getting quite crowded these days :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/88152-great-walks-in-countryside-near-east-dulwich/#findComment-942703 Share on other sites
amac
You definitely should... it's a very different vibe to SE London! amac
That's exactly why I did the website. I often think that there are some little pockets of countryside just 40 minutes from Dulwich/Forest Hill that really transport you somewhere else... even to another era. amac
Thanks, truth to tell, I've only ever been walking near Box Hill and Leith Hill Surrey way, simply due to the amount of time it takes to get there as opposed to me old stamping ground of the Darenth Valley and Downe Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/88152-great-walks-in-countryside-near-east-dulwich/#findComment-942828 Share on other sites

Penguin68
AdminIs there any chance of including the link to this blog of 'locally accessible' walks mainly in Kent (link in OPs original post) in the 'blog' section of local info? - although the walks aren't precisely local they are put together to be accessible for those of us who live locally and seem to have been well done. Although those of us reading the post now can bookmark the link, I believe it is of genuine value to those coming late® to these threads. Tima
These walks look fabulous. Thank you for putting it together as we had been struggling to decide where to head for the best day walks in the vicinity and these look a great way to start. amac
Thanks for your comments everyone. I hope you enjoy the walks and avoid getting lost, and, if you're using the train, they aren't all cancelled? There are also some muddy bits too at the moment, but it's all good really! Here's a couple of pix from the walks that might whet your appetite...
