Also,on a thread called UNPOPULAR music opinion,it's a bit harsh to have a go at someone for voicing an opinion you disagree with.

I don't agree with Louisa about The Beatles, but do agree that there were probably plenty of equally talented people around at the time but The Beatles were VERY well managed which put them in a very good position.

And totally agree With Jeremy about the status of Lennon and McCartney.

Most things in music are subjective.

Whether or not the Beatles were innovative and influential isn't. It's just a fact.

If you honesty believe they weren't, then I'm afraid you're going to have to show your working. And you're going to have to put up a better fight than than Rock Around The Clock and Elvis.

In any case, the writing off (or conversely, adoring of) particular artists and their entire (and in the case of The Beatles - staggeringly varied) repertoires in one fell swoop is best left to sulking teenagers or others of immature mind.

Unfortunately, if you?ve reached later adulthood and still find yourself falling into this category - then I?m sorry to say you?re destined to be a musical bedwetter/thumbsucker until the day you die.

I thought this thread was 'unpopular' music opinion, as Otta rightly says. And who wrote the rules on the workings of what should and shouldn't be said on this thread *Bob*, if as you rightly point out musical taste is subjective? Or is this just another way of having a dig at me for the sake of it?

Yeah, you can't really argue with the fact they were the most influential band ever.

I guess for some people who were there at the time, it became a bit grating when theybstaryed taking themselves far too seriously though. To be honest it's probably similar to the reasons we all hate Chris Martin.

As an "Uncut" and "Mojo" subscriber, I'm probably as guilty of music nostalgia as anyone, but I try to bear in mind that in the 60s in particular, pop music was regarded as utterly ephemeral (with the exception of Dylan and his 'poetic' ilk). If you'd told 60s bands and singers that people would be listening to, writing about and discussing their songs fifty years later, they'd have laughed at you.

As I stated earlier *Bob*, even if what you say is true (eg "maverick ninny"), who are you or anyone else to state what the rules are for disliking a particular band and discarding their influence, on a thread which is specifically designed for unpopular music opinion? A bizarre response which sounds suspiciously like goading ("for the sake of it" to quote your last message). Happy new year btw :)

The first three Elvis songs which popped into my head - Hound Dog, Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock. Now I appreciate that music is much more diverse these days, but nevertheless, to my ears they are all really the same song. And two of them had already been recorded by someone else.

At least Quo wrote SOME of their own stuff!
