yesterday afternoon at 3.31 the electricity in parts of se22 and a couple of other post codes went off.. and the fifth time this years. all in the same group of postcodes. this is the third outage in a month. this time supplies did not resume until 11pm. asking edf for an explanation of this strange coincidence is like trying to plait sawdust. the other strange coincidence is that more than 2,400 house were reconnected, leaving 100+ still in he dark and cold. the same 100+ as on all the other occasions. what the hell is going on? I should add that two of the power cuts happened in the summer months so they can't grab at the weather as an excuse. does anyone have any information about this? could it be connected with the massive underground reservoir being beuilt by peckham rye?

No idea but wanted to let you know that if you have three power outages in a year of more than 6 hours each, you are entitled to compensation. You have to ask for it (it's not automatic) and they sometimes try to fob you off since if it's only once, it has to be for 24 hours (I think). But ?50 is not to be sneezed at...

This sometimes happens where I am on Friern Road. Immediately next door and opposite are never affected . The last time was about 2 weeks ago. Power went off at 1am and came back on 9.30am . Enough time for all the food in the freezer to defrost . So had to be eaten . If I hadnt have been in i'd have been none the wiser and then eaten re-freezed food . Is this safe ?

Erm, there's no reservoir being built by Peckham Rye. There's two that have been there since Victorian times. I am guessing you are tlaking about the works on Colyton Road which I believe are putting in a massive pipe between here and Brixton. I'm not sure that's got anything to do with the power outs as it's a VERY deep hole and going way beneath any other services.

not really but food should remain frozen for at least 8 to 10 hours as long as you dont open the door. My friends was ok yesterday and she had no power for over 8 hours.

    • Before going to Social Media it is always worth checking out the details: Southwark's spending for this year: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/council-tax/how-we-manage-council-tax/our-budget-and-how-we-spend-council-tax/our-income-and As you will see, as with most if not all London Boroughs, shed loads goes on social care and children's services.  The cost of paying for residential care, and for 'specialist schools is massive.  As with other boroughs they have been hit hard by austerity under the coalition government.  And the failure by successive governments to sort out social care.  That is a thread all in its own rights. Local authorities of all political persuasions across England are facing tough times, several have gone into administration: Birmingham, Woking, Thurrock, Croydon, Slough, Northamptonshire, and Nottingham and 11 are on bailouts.   Covid will not have helped.  Some will have made some poor investment decisions in the past eg Thurrock and Woking;  Some total mismanagement and one has been hit by historical debt through not paying their workers fairly (Brum).   Reform promise simple solutions to cutting spending.  Not that easy is it Nige?
