bobbsy
Hello all - I realise there are numerous threads on broadband issues, I'm looking for some location specific advice.I am on the southern end of Underhill Road (Horniman end) and am looking to change from Sky broadband to either Virgin fibre (shock horror!) or BT fibre.Does anyone in my local area have problems on reliability and speed with either of these? Thanks in advance. Penguin68
I am also at the Southern (ish) end of Underhill (past Langton Rise) - I have BT Infinity 2 - it works well for me. bobbsy
Thanks Penguin. Anyone with Virginal experience down this end of the woods? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/94579-broadband-advice/#findComment-962381 Share on other sites
Bic Basher
I really wouldn't bother with Virgin, the network is over capacity and there have been numerous complaints about speed on EDF and SE23.com.You're not too far from the BT exchange, so should get reasonable ADSL2+ speeds and fibre should be fine. bobbsy
Thanks Bic Basher, yes noted, but from what i could see on the other threads Virgin complaints seemed to be quite location specific. Virgin slightly trumps BT on TV channels and price...but not if it doesn't work! Andybol
I was at cornflower terrace with virgin and it dropped ALL the time. Eventually got it cancelled without charge as the engineer came in to test the line and I was getting 2MB from my 37Mb I was paying for. bobbsy
Thanks Andybol, looks like Virgin is a no-no then. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/94579-broadband-advice/#findComment-962411 Share on other sites
bilksy
I ended up going for BT Fibre infinity after doing a speed check from my road. It seemed quicker then the rest and was a very competitive price. I heard horror stories with virgin (also some good ones) but the price wasnt that far off. bobbsy
Bringing this back to life - another provider has sprung into the limelight.Does anyone have experience of EE as a fibre broadband and TV provider? Penguin68
EE is now owned by BT. Even before it was the underlying broadband infrastructure would be provided by BT Openworld. I suspect its TV offering will be based on BT Vision. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/94579-broadband-advice/#findComment-963647 Share on other sites

Bic Basher
Worth noting that while all ISP's except Virgin use BT Openreach, Sky and TalkTalk have Local Loop unbundling (LLU) at the Dulwich exchange, which means they have their own direct connections to their own networks, while the rest use bandwidth sold by BT Wholesale. This is why for example, TalkTalk don't have traffic shaping where speeds are lowered for some users with other ISP's. bzgeo
Try virgin if you would like to pay for the worst connection in history... their network is doomed around ED Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/94579-broadband-advice/#findComment-964142 Share on other sites
