I've seen the silver 'threp'nee' bits on sale at places like Greenwich Market but I only remember the brass ones. The silver sixpence was known as a 'tanner' the shilling (as brum says)was a 'bob' etc.

I don't remember the crown (five shillings) being in circulation though.

(In reply to Shorty)

Quite simple - when you cut and paste bits from the internet, it's normal to let people know where you've got the information from. That way they can go and find out more for themselves if they want to.

Same as when you were cutting and pasting all that website info about the V1 and V2 attacks. Same as when you save an image from the internet (say of the Friern Road prefabs, or of the Dulwich Cino) and then post it pretending that it's an old picture of your own.

The other part of my message is intimating that, in my opinion, you are inventing other usernames in order to have a conversation with yourself, perhaps to validate your own posts. I can't prove this, obviously, and I can't see that it does any harm. It's a trifle misleading perhaps.

Ted thank you for your assumptions, I have never pretended that a presentation was mine or included my name to it.

The items that I posted of the Vi & Vii Bombs were Steve's who is a member here he raised no objection to those being used to further his investigations, and even stated it here.

You are making unsupported remarks that are guiding others to think your way, and act on your belief.

I need no instruction on the use of how to use my posts.

Might it be imagination on your part to suggest that I am talking to myself.

Thank you for giving me credit of other members, I do not want it.

In my very limited time using the computer things are learnt, such as one member picking errors in anothers posts never looking at his/her own, that often show him as dominant, and some times a complete fool.

If you would prefer that I did not post then say so, as the members might agree with you, but on the other hand may support me, and reject you.

I only carry on a subject that gets replies of interest shown.

I have some very doubtful thoughts of members but I do not usually respond to a personal attack.

I joined this website to find my previous neighbours and friends but they have not responded as I looks that they are gone.

This does with your distasteful message make me considder Do I want to remain here?

Regards Shorty.

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
