Remember to wipe car door handles

Recommended Posts

Our car was broken into last night - probably about 9pm. No sign of a break-in in terms of forced entry so guessing I accidentally unlocked car earlier when decorating out front and deciding to seek refuge in car on driveway as a family had decided to stop outside and play with their child - we are in isolation.

Clearly someone chancing their luck trying door handles along the road plus driveways. So important you wipe clean car door handles at this time as you have no idea who has been their first.

Will call police later in case they want to check for fingerprints. Culprit probably left DNA in car as there was a part eaten chocolate biscuit on the seat. They clearly know about breaking into cars as had accessed a secret compartment that I didn?t know existed after 15 years of owning the car.

Only item so far that appears to have been stolen was prescription sunglasses so of little value if try?s to sell on, but for me costly to replace. They probably got a shock when opening two main compartments to discover so much stuff crammed into them. Must have taken a few minutes for them to empty contents and they had to turn on interior lights as well to see.

Afew cars in our close were broken into last night and night before, all without forced entry. So chances are you didn?t forget to lock car. More likely that it was a Keyless car theft (aka Relay Theft) where the thief using a device to activate your fob to unlock your car. Here?s what I found online

Be extra vigilant and get cctv

    • Pot holes feel like they’re becoming more of an issue (based purely on my perception, don’t know what data there is). Even worse outside London imo. I suspect as Mal says, heavier vehicles are part of the problem (both SUVs, but also EVs which are generally heavier than ‘conventional’ cars), but regardless the council need to be more on it.  You can use the fixmystreet app to report them (and other street maintenance issues).
    • Prior to the LTNs do you have many examples where the results of consultations were not acted upon? Seems to me the council is picking and choosing when they action the feedback from their constituents.......   Have you looked at the results from that, if not, tale some time to have a look, its quite enlightening..it seems the majority do not think the changes will have the desired effect....but you know it's not a refendum so the council has chosen to ignore the feedback of constituents. They must be assuming full responsibility for ignoring residents feedback- clearly they think they know what's best for us. If it all goes wrong let's see if they take responsibility!   Earl, here's a question for you (and i know you wont answer it but lets see)...why do you think the council has never asked a yes/no question to local residents about anything to do with the LTNs - wether they exist or whether we think the changes they have suggested (using our money) are needed/worthwhile? Or a consultation with a yes/no answer but we all know why. I still laugh that the council had to re-run the CPZ consultation with a yes/no answer and finally had to listen to their constituents...they took a hell of a spanking! They have been cheating the system for years and getting away with it. So does that not apply during consultations then? (P.S before you answer take a look at the definition of a consultation as provided by the Local Government Association).
    • What other matters of policy would you have decided by referendum, or is it just the one you feel strongly about? 🙄 We live in a representative democracy for good reason. After Brexit I thought this would be even clearer. We’ve had local elections since the LTN came in and those who introduced it were returned to office. You may want to revisit a debate that finished 3 years ago, but it isn’t going to happen. You need to move on. …still no one willing to defend the claims in One Dulwich’s latest missive I note. 😂
    • Please describe the missing item to me, and If the description is correct I let you know where to collect it. If noone responds I will bring it to the police in the next few days.
