Mems' battling barber

Mems has provided a rich vein for the forum so I thought they deserved a new thread that carried none of the baggage of the earlier one.

For my brutally short back and sides I had to wait for Ibz to get off the phone to his manager. They were discussing his first light heavyweight professional fight which takes place on the 18th Feb, somewhere out East London/Essex way.

Ibz is training hard and looks the business. I might go

I had a Good hair cut at Mems 3-4 weeks back..

The Guy I had was new to the Dulwich Branch. He was friendly and attentive to my requirements.

There was absolutely NO banter between the two barbers working.

..and he charged me (old git) ?8.00. I gave him ?10.00 and he thanked me.

I will be going back next time I need a haircut.

Some of the other local barbers give a poor cut if you are paying 'Pensioner' rates.

I suppose most pensioners do not have much hair.. I have a proper mop..

P.S. You don't get many recommendations from the Fox.. so rest assured it's a genuine one ..

Talking of old peoples hair or lack of: what will happen to Wayne Rooney's transplants? do they stay whilst the rest disappears in a sort of reverse balding?

I think the balder you get on top, the shorter the sides should go.

DulwichFox: Glad you didn't meet the two nasty little dogs I did on Friday !! They killed a dulwich fox!!

He was probably just trying to be sassy.

    • Please understand that I am not doubting the word of anyone who has posted here with problems with bought-in prepared meat, but (I am old) uncooked meat (perfectly 'good' meat) does smell often, we are too used to shrink wrapped and chilled supermarket meat which can be almost scent free - so we are surprised when 'butcher's' meat does smell (and often, if it is uncooked, quite strongly). Indeed game which is high can smell quite strongly, and not in a good way to our 21st C sensibilities, without being off - as in food poisoning off. Certainly prepared meat, when cooked, should smell enticing, and not at all bad - so the experiences quoted above are certainly very worrying - but younger people reading this should not be concerned, particularly, if fresh (raw) meat they have bought from e.g. a proper butchers has a smell to it. Which is not to say that something which smells rank shouldn't be a point of complaint. Even the smell of high-ish game, if left unwrapped, should dissipate once unwrapped. If it increases however it may be  cause for concern. But raw beef or lamb in the joint can often smell of something which isn't necessarily particularly nice, without it being worrying. It will tend to cook with more flavour.
