Is this just weird or is it illegal?

MD has a flatscreen on the wall of his office which shows live pictures from camera's of all of the offices so he can observe what people are doing presumably. It also appears he has a similar set-up in his home to allow his to watch the employees when he is working from home.

Would you work for someone like that?

Why illegal?

He probably reads their emails as well, and they probably all signed something saying they know.

And on face value maybe it's a bit weird. Or maybe they work in a diamond sorting office with a theft problem. Dunno.

A lady who is his accountant got a call from him at one point asking her why she didn't answer her phone previously. She was too busy and is working literally 7 days a week to try and get on top of the job. He was observing her from his home. There is nothing in her office to steal.

There'll be something in the contract to say that the company can read emails, but they still need a justification for doing so. If you send an email entitled 'Private' and the company reads it without having a good reason to (e.g. they're on record as investigating you for abuse of company property or similar), they're breaching your right to privacy.

    • We had one that projected stars and played lullabies. It was a soft toy bee with a hard plastic back. I know we used it but can’t recall how effective it was.  What was brilliant was the Lulla sleep doll which has a heart beat sound. That was a critical sleep aid for the first couple of years.
    • Hmmm, millions of animals are killed each year to eat in this country.  10,000 animals (maybe many more) reared to be eaten by exotic pets, dissected by students, experimented on by cosmetic and medical companies.  Why is this any different? Unless you have a vegan lifestyle most of us aren't in a position to judge.  I've not eaten meat for years, try not to buy leather and other animal products as much as possible but don't read every label, and have to live with the fact that for every female chick bred to (unaturally) lay eggs for me to eat, there will be male that is likely top be slaughtered, ditto for the cow/milk machines - again unnatural. I wasn't aware that there was this sort of market, but there must be a demand for it and doubt if it is breaking any sort of law. Happy to be proved wrong on anything and everything.
