Thames Water Essential Work in the area..

Recommended Posts

I received a letter (2 Letters in fact) from Thames Water informing me they will be carrying out

Essential Work in the area.. but do not know exactly where this work will take place. ???

The work will take place on Wednesday 28th February between 10.00am and 16.00.

The instruction is to look out for Traffic Cones and remove cars ..

I live on Ulverscroft Rd. I suspect everyone on this road would of received the same letter

BUT .. this IS Thames Water.

I have two letters.

One says there will be work on 22 February between 11am and 5pm.

The other says there will be work on 28 February between 10am amd 4pm.

I thought it was good they were giving us advance warning. They have quite fairly said that they don't know exactly what they will need to do until they have dug down to inspect the pipe, and will try to fix the issue without interrupting the supply but that isn't always possible.

They have said they need full access to the road and will put cones where they are going to work. They have asked us to help them by leaving the cones where they are and not parking there. Fair enough, surely!

They have suggested filling kettles and storing water etc. in case they need to turn the supply off.

They have outlined what we can expect to happen when the supply is turned back on.

I thought both letters were very clear and helpful, personally.

No, ACTUALLY, KK :)), they say it might splutter and look cloudy due to trapped air in the pipes.

They tell you what to do if the pressure is low or the water has not come back on at all.

They tell you to contact them if what you have done doesn't work.

I know you are a DIY genius, but some of us (aka me) find that sort of thing useful :))

They also tell you to contact them on a 24 hour line if you have a medical condition which means you need a constant supply of water.

I genuinely thought it was a useful, customer-friendly letter (or two letters, about different dates and times).

Well, that's useful information for those of us who know where you live, which probably isn't very many :))

But I suppose they can all trek down the road to see which cars still have cards on their windscreens :))

I have no desire to reveal my address to all and sundary.

The point is ...

...Anyone who does not have a card on their windscreen do not need to worry about moving their car.

I'm no expert but I think you need a bit more than that, one can obtain any number of names and matching addresses by simply looking in the 'phone book.

You don't seem to like Thames Water much, I don't know why. It seems to me they are doing all they could do in advance to make the work go smoothly for us and them.

Do you have a water meter? I've saved a massive amount since getting one (and I'm also much more careful with water use :) )

Check your toilet isn't leaking into the bowl - that quadrupled my bill one 6 month.

I am a single person in the same sized house as yours.

I am on a water meter for the second year.

I am currently ?2 in credit on on a payment plan of ?204 a year.

If I'd changed to a meter years ago, I would have saved a fortune by now. As it is, I'm saving around ?200 a year. No brainer really :)

I'm guessing this work is probably not happening today as planned, due to the weather, or am I wrong?

Have just put my head out of the door, and no sign of Thames Water.

Vile smell of pollution, though :(

Well, 2 planned appointments have passed.

Evidently Thames Water turned up on the 22nd Feb but were unable to do the work due to car obstructing the site.

I never saw them and I live a couple of doors away and have relocated my car,

No warning cones were put out.

On the 28th Feb we had the Snow..

Water has been coming up through an Old Post Office Telephones footway box outside 73/75 Ulverscroft.

This has stopped although I have not seen any work being carried out.

It is possible that the water has been turned off although I still have water at the moment.

I have filled Kettles as precaution. It may go off at any time

So you find it cheaper with a meter?

We pay ?55 per month for water, 3 bedroom house with one bathroom and no meter. I don't know if thats good or bad?!
