You could try phoning the Indian embassy? (or going up there, it's only in Aldwych).

Posted mine (registered) on Monday morning to the new place in Southall and got it back by courier on the Friday , the price has also risen somewhat, I think with courier return its ?100 or so.very efficient text message updates to keep you aware of its status.

From March 2014 India will be doing visas on arrival - what a relief and hopefully much cheaper!

That sounds like a nightmare, you fly for 9 hours and then get told you're not allowed a visa.

Recipe for disaster, what with how long you'll have to queue to even find out your visa decision.
