Seemed to be the situation when I walked down LL about 5 mins ago too.
  4. I've got 48 copies of the reluctant fundamentalist to give away...any suggestions of where/how?
  5. but delay to denmark hill extension... http://londonreconnections.blogspot.com/2011/01/ell-extension-news-for-both-north-and.html
  6. Has anyone tried this (as host or guest), and if so what are your experiences? My initial thought were that its dodgier than hitchiking but having taken a closer look I like the review system etc, and the ones where you can pay for a room, house, boat etc as an alternative to a hotel look like they have great potential if you're discerning about it, a bit less anonymous than a hotel I've provisionally booked to stay for a weekend in Dublin in a lovely looking house at airbnb.com and I'd therefore be quite interested to hear any feedback from anyone who has tried a similar thing.
  7. Yes its fantastic - but the trains with *s at 11pm+ on the LB to DH trains do not exist - as I found out to my cost last week SD - if you happen to have a few spare hours, a DH to V/V to DH one would be very welcome! (tu)
  8. And all this time i'd been thinking (for no apparent reason) jrussell was HonaloochieB.
  9. Oh I see - it seems to work better the other way around... From the fco website I read this: Entry visas for Lebanon are issued free of charge at the airport on arrival however, there is a charge at the border posts if entering Lebanon by road. On a single entry visa a traveller is permitted to travel to Syria as long as the return to Lebanon is made within five days. How was your day in Lebanon though?
  10. This is really interesting and helpful, thank you. I'm planning to go to Beirut and then travel overland into Syria (I read that you could do this without paying specifically for a visa for Syria, and Lebanon visas are free) However I'm waiting for flights to get cheaper - saw one a few weeks ago for 149, now can't get one for less than 300 and feel like i've seriously missed out
  11. you should write a book!
