  1. Another recommendation for Niko. He gave some really helpful advice over the phone and was really kind to squeeze us in late in the evening to replace a leaking tap. Also fitted my mother's washing machine when we were really stuck. He goes the extra mile and is a very nice guy.
  2. Hello, not sure exactly who I am looking for (builder? carpenter?) but I am looking for someone to widen an internal doorway. Ideally I'm looking to create double doors where the current door is, but there are some electricals that would need to be moved. For that reason it might be easier to create a new doorway. Any recommendations much appreciated. Thanks
  3. If we haven't booked online are tickets available on the door?
  4. I've been researching a holiday in Cambodia and from what I've read on blogs Sihanoukville is a bit of a backpacker party zone, although Otres is the calmer part of it.
  5. I need similar help on Tuesday evening lifting a small shed/store box from one end of the garden to another. It would need two people and will take less than 15 mins. Happy to pay ?30 as well. Im based in Honor Oak. Send me a message if you are interested
  6. I've just been at the station and as kristymac1 says trains are not stopping at East Dulwich due to power problems. They seem to be stopping at other stations so if you live close to Peckham/North Dulwich perhaps go there? However tickets are being accepted on local bus routes
  7. So there's no point buying a replacement as they'll just keep taking even the base unit? I guess I'm doomed to be forever with radio-shaped gap in my dashboard - unless I alarm the car which is probably quite expensive and difficult. I could buy an old radio on gumtree but I've always had one which connects to an ipod/iphone as that's how I use it most of time. There must be an easier way to stop them. People should be able to have a radio in their car! Even if it is a medium priced one at ?50.
  8. Do you think he would have still stolen the radio unit if he had been unable to find the detachable front in the car? After breaking into the car and not being able to find the front cover do they just give up and move to the next one or take the base unit anyway. I still can't decide whether it was a co-incidence that the same night I re-installed the radio my car was broken into a second time. For people who asked my car is a VW Polo

The strange thing was the front panel was unclipped and I hid it out of site in the glove box. There's no way they could have known the front panel was in the car until they broke in and searched the glove box. I was intending to always bring it inside but I wanted to program it this morning so left the front panel and manual in the glove box.
  10. Does anyone have any advice about preventing car thieves? A few months ago our car was broken into on Melbourne Grove. They smashed the small back window and got away with the radio and cheap GPS both of which were hidden under the seat. Neither were expensive models and I thought I'd learnt my lesson and it was my fault for leaving valuables in the car. I've been driving around for a few months without a car radio and yesterday bought a new and relatively expensive Sony. I installed it late last night and was sitting in my car for an hour outside my house at 11pm working out how to fit all the wires together. I could not believe it when I woke up this morning and came down to find the base unit of the radio gone! They seem to have bent the driver's door at the top to open the car. I'm now a bit paranoid - Were they watching me? It seems unlikely that a few hours after I put in my new radio my car gets broken into again? How can I stop this happening or should I just accept driving around without a car radio? Apart from anything it looks silly having a big gap in the dashboard with wires hanging out of it!

  12. I live on Melbourne Grove and I was initially in favour and filled out the consultation document strongly supporting the proposal. I simply thought that a CPZ would ensure there would always be a parking space for me - how could that be a bad thing? However, having read through all 8 pages of debate I changed my mind and now think that a CPZ will just be an unnecessary hassle. Realistically I only struggle finding a space to park on Melbourne Grove a few times a year and it's not worth paying ?100+ to solve this, not to mention the added hassle of visitor fees. I've changed my answers to reflect these views but I just wonder how many other 'residents' have jumped to support the proposal without really thinking about the full impact and hassle of having a CPZ? I certainly wouldn't have thought about it if I hadn't seen this thread on the forum. The document does seem to push you towards the supporting the proposal. For example it doesn't lay out the disadvantages in a simple format (e.g. problems for local businesses, visitor problems, costs of permits)
  13. I got a call from MacMillan today. The young woman seemed genuinely nice and was very persuasive. I almost signed up but I too don't like this hard sell approach and prefer to select charities myself. However, I did spend the rest of the afternoon feeling guilty for not donating!
