  1. Another recommendation for Niko. He gave some really helpful advice over the phone and was really kind to squeeze us in late in the evening to replace a leaking tap. Also fitted my mother's washing machine when we were really stuck. He goes the extra mile and is a very nice guy.
  2. Hello, not sure exactly who I am looking for (builder? carpenter?) but I am looking for someone to widen an internal doorway. Ideally I'm looking to create double doors where the current door is, but there are some electricals that would need to be moved. For that reason it might be easier to create a new doorway. Any recommendations much appreciated. Thanks
  3. If we haven't booked online are tickets available on the door?
  4. I've been researching a holiday in Cambodia and from what I've read on blogs Sihanoukville is a bit of a backpacker party zone, although Otres is the calmer part of it.
  5. I need similar help on Tuesday evening lifting a small shed/store box from one end of the garden to another. It would need two people and will take less than 15 mins. Happy to pay ?30 as well. Im based in Honor Oak. Send me a message if you are interested
  6. I've just been at the station and as kristymac1 says trains are not stopping at East Dulwich due to power problems. They seem to be stopping at other stations so if you live close to Peckham/North Dulwich perhaps go there? However tickets are being accepted on local bus routes
  7. So there's no point buying a replacement as they'll just keep taking even the base unit? I guess I'm doomed to be forever with radio-shaped gap in my dashboard - unless I alarm the car which is probably quite expensive and difficult. I could buy an old radio on gumtree but I've always had one which connects to an ipod/iphone as that's how I use it most of time. There must be an easier way to stop them. People should be able to have a radio in their car! Even if it is a medium priced one at ?50.
  8. Do you think he would have still stolen the radio unit if he had been unable to find the detachable front in the car? After breaking into the car and not being able to find the front cover do they just give up and move to the next one or take the base unit anyway. I still can't decide whether it was a co-incidence that the same night I re-installed the radio my car was broken into a second time. For people who asked my car is a VW Polo
  9. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My car radio has a front panel that just unclips > which you simply take indoors with you. The strange thing was the front panel was unclipped and I hid it out of site in the glove box. There's no way they could have known the front panel was in the car until they broke in and searched the glove box. I was intending to always bring it inside but I wanted to program it this morning so left the front panel and manual in the glove box.
  10. Does anyone have any advice about preventing car thieves? A few months ago our car was broken into on Melbourne Grove. They smashed the small back window and got away with the radio and cheap GPS both of which were hidden under the seat. Neither were expensive models and I thought I'd learnt my lesson and it was my fault for leaving valuables in the car. I've been driving around for a few months without a car radio and yesterday bought a new and relatively expensive Sony. I installed it late last night and was sitting in my car for an hour outside my house at 11pm working out how to fit all the wires together. I could not believe it when I woke up this morning and came down to find the base unit of the radio gone! They seem to have bent the driver's door at the top to open the car. I'm now a bit paranoid - Were they watching me? It seems unlikely that a few hours after I put in my new radio my car gets broken into again? How can I stop this happening or should I just accept driving around without a car radio? Apart from anything it looks silly having a big gap in the dashboard with wires hanging out of it!

  12. I live on Melbourne Grove and I was initially in favour and filled out the consultation document strongly supporting the proposal. I simply thought that a CPZ would ensure there would always be a parking space for me - how could that be a bad thing? However, having read through all 8 pages of debate I changed my mind and now think that a CPZ will just be an unnecessary hassle. Realistically I only struggle finding a space to park on Melbourne Grove a few times a year and it's not worth paying ?100+ to solve this, not to mention the added hassle of visitor fees. I've changed my answers to reflect these views but I just wonder how many other 'residents' have jumped to support the proposal without really thinking about the full impact and hassle of having a CPZ? I certainly wouldn't have thought about it if I hadn't seen this thread on the forum. The document does seem to push you towards the supporting the proposal. For example it doesn't lay out the disadvantages in a simple format (e.g. problems for local businesses, visitor problems, costs of permits)
  13. I got a call from MacMillan today. The young woman seemed genuinely nice and was very persuasive. I almost signed up but I too don't like this hard sell approach and prefer to select charities myself. However, I did spend the rest of the afternoon feeling guilty for not donating!
  14. DeptfordDiva Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What causes it? Your right, taller people are more at risk (not sure about slim people though!). It is called a primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) and tends to occur in otherwise healthy tall males between the ages of 10 and 30 years. Some of us have weak spots or blisters/blebs at the top of our lungs. These can rupture causing air to leak out and collect between the lung and the chest wall which prevents one lung from inflating properly. This usually occurs in taller people because they have big lungs which can create a larger pressure difference and this puts more strains on the blebs.
  15. A new timetable with additional trains started today so I've attached an updated version to the first post. I've tried to make it clear on the timetable that the new later trains from ED to LB (00:18 & 00:33) only run on Friday and Saturday evenings. I hope people continue to find this timetable useful.
  16. I've just got back into cycling after coming off my bike 2 years ago. I've been trying to find a good route to cycle to Queen Elizabeth Hospital which is just past Greenwich Park I'm really happy with most of my current route http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=E+Dulwich+Grove%2FA2214&daddr=51.4663778,-0.0510321+to:51.464064,-0.0383768+to:51.4719268,-0.0318996+to:51.4740025,0.0066575+to:Shrapnel+Close&geocode=FeQ0EQMdxM7-_w%3BFYlQEQMdqDj__yl3c9pBrAN2SDEgVQo5xoUREw%3BFYBHEQMdGGr__ynNdD2yUQJ2SDGg0pWqLa4OEw%3BFTZmEQMdZYP__ynJU5GKWAJ2SDGRF1U5xoUREw%3BFVJuEQMdARoAAClFvk2jLKjYRzHgwwo5xoUREw%3BFSR7EQMd8sIAAA&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=4&sz=14&via=1,2,3,4&sll=51.473578,0.025835&sspn=0.031222,0.090895&ie=UTF8&z=14 which takes me past Nunhead then Brockley and then up to the A2. The problem is that I can't work out anyway to avoid the the A2 at the Depford Bridge junction and up Blackheath Hill. I feel like I take my life in my hands as the road is full of huge lorries speeding in and out of london! It's a real shame because apart from that short bit I like the rest of the route. I was wondering whether anyone could suggest any alternatives? I don't mind cycling on average roads just not major routes with loads of trucks. The only other route which someone suggested before for getting to Canary Wharf is going around via Ladywell and Lewisham. Something like this http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Elsie+Rd&daddr=51.45169,-0.03952+to:51.4565945,-0.0200039+to:51.476154,0.012916+to:Shrapnel+Close&geocode=Fc84EQMd79D-_w%3BFSoXEQMdoGX__ykt4lYYNgJ2SDGAHJaqLa4OEw%3BFVIqEQMd3bH__ynPV3nSawJ2SDFRF5eyLa4OEw%3BFbp2EQMddDIAACmBbA1_MqjYRzEgs66qLa4OEw%3BFSh7EQMd08IAAA&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&via=1,2,3&sll=51.457991,-0.069609&sspn=0.015616,0.045447&ie=UTF8&ll=51.45743,-0.059996&spn=0.031233,0.090895&z=14 . I haven't tried this one yet as I worry it will add quite a bit of time onto my commute which usually takes me just under an hour - although I'm hoping to speed up as I get fitter and more confident. Does anyone does know any good routes to Greenwich Park / Black Heath? The route to the hospital after that is quite easy - it's just this first half I can't figure out!

(tu) Has anyone else found any mistakes or problems with the timetables - particularly the main one from East Dulwich to London Bridge?
  18. I think I'm going to draw the line at: 1. East Dulwich to London Bridge 2. Denmark Hill to London Bridge 3. Peckham Rye to London Bridge (provided someone sends me the times) Anything else and I'm going to end up spending my life making timetables! As you suggest the best way to make alter the timetable is probably using a pdf editor. I think there are some free ones online - I use Foxit PDF Editor which I think also has a free version but probably with some restrictions.

Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Am I the only one thinking that it's a bit cheeky > to ask the guy to produce timetables for other > stations? > > I mean... why not just knock up your own one in > Word or something, then share on here? I've said in PMs to some people that I don't mind making a Peckham Rye one if someone wants to send me train times preferably in a format as similar as possible to the way I present it on the timetable. I.e. split by hours E.g. Monday to Friday: East Dulwich to London Bridge 6am: 12,39,55 7am: 05,15,29,34,46,57 8am: 04,14,27,33,45,59 Etc. I got the times for the original timetable from the website mentioned above http://mytimes.southernrailway.com/hafas/query-p2w.exe/en and I also double checked it with the trainline but that's probably overkill. If anyone wants to do that PM me and I'll try to fit them into the timetable
  20. chez Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > LEGEND! Like the iPhone applicability too > > How about one from Denmark Hill too...? I didn't even think about putting it on my ipod until it was mentioned above but it saves me printing it out for the moment. Luckily the Denmark Hill timetable is really simple so only takes 5 minutes. It's a bit boring as the trains stay the same through most of the day but it does mean that both journeys should fit on one page. The only tricky thing was on Sunday there are quite a few slow trains which take 30mins rather than 10mins. I didn't want to confuse anyone (or myself) so only put the slow ones on when they are relevant - i.e. early in the morning and late at night. They are the starred italicized ones. It's only done really quickly but might be worth to put on your iphone. Hope it's OK.

Bartoche Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Top man, very useful! > I've combined small 1 & 2 so you just need to > print that one file double side! > Many thx, > B Thanks Bartoche. I forgot that some people have clever printers which can automatically print 'back to back' - unfortunately my old inkjet definately isn't up to it! I've updated the file and altered the instructions to make it easier for those with newer printers. I'm glad the double sided thing seems to be working for most people.
  23. anna_r Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thank you so much - very helpful! Already printed > out (back to back - worked perfectly) and in > purse! Excellent! I'm really pleased the back-to-back worked (although you might be the lucky one!). Let me know if you like it or if you have any suggestions to make it better. EDITED: Download the attachment for the second iphone picture. When saving it will automatically save as a PNG this is probably the best format to ensure the text is clear.
