Going off thread a little here but pet dogs are mostly grown up puppies who are generally play hunting, apart from the few more closely related to their ancient ancestors. Interesting to see urban foxes seem to rarely chase and kill anything. Well on their way to domestication. -

Wowsy,Amex. I'll try that at the Hillside caf?, I expect all the builders use them. Although they may have only been taking cash last time I was there. Posted in good humour 😊 -
But as you know it was the pesky yanks who were the reason so many countries drive on the wrong side. In ancient Rome they drove their carts and chariots on the left

Getting a bit daft now. We need to ban all pets that chase other animals. Starting with cats who kill birds and mice. Although I understand that they are not responsible for bird numbers generally declining. Fundamentally there is an argument that we should not keep any pets. But that isn't going to happen in the real world -

Nice post Nigello, I may well plagiarise your words on other threads! Serious question, has anyone contacted parks service/Southwark with proposals or their councillor? -

There is a separate thread where it appears that most in the area don't seem concerned. It would be good to hear your views on why the school is needed. -

Birds generally have lots of babies but most don't make it to adulthood. That's nature for you. A petition is totally out of proportion, yes it's sad but there are bigger things to worry about and causes to fight for. -
I worked in related sectors and in deed those areas where local government runs the service either as the majority shareholder or through a franchise system like TfL which other metropolitan areas are now moving to improved services and patronage, very different to the rest of the country. Thatcher saw buses as poor people's transport. Livingstone got the ball rolling and although promised conductors and cutting fares much further, Oyster and the then fixed pound for any length of journey was revolutionary. Sadly costly to change to a zero emission fleet and money is no longer therein London. I spent time at Reading buses, where they colour code routes and improved comfort, and shifted to natural gas which is cleaner. Even had a drive around the car park in a bus. Nottingham, York and Bristol were other faves. Behaviour on buses is of course an issue worthy of separate adult conversations but I don't see how sweeping statements help. And every generation has its issues. I expect the same was said of Teddy Boys slashing seats in the 50s. Particularly after national service ended. (Edited, think I was taken in by a facetious post.....)

Best breakfast, brunch and lunch for me is Parkside cafe near the Herne. Proper greasy spoon, where they know what I want, make proper tea and plenty of change out of a tenner. -
Cauliflowerear, I found your post rather reactionary, possibly borderline casual racist, and irelevant to the discussion on the number 12 bus. Perhaps I should have said that, but on this occasion the hang them and flog them tone just got to me. Mr/Mrs Rockets, can you not keep your anti Southwark sentiment to the LTN thread? Not sure why you resort to accusing others you don't agree with as being trolls and ask for them to be banned. I've stopped posting on LTNs as I expect many others who are not adverse to some controls on motor vehicles. Sorry to others that I am not being more constructive and going off thread. But scroll up and you see my early posts were relevant in this subject. I remember when the number 12 was a routemaster. Rose tinted specs as they were very out if date. I didn't mind riding on the bendy buses, but they were just wrong for our street network. Ultimately it was the deal that the previous Mayor agreed on funding DfT that screwed TfL up. He had no interest in the detail and was easily hoodwinked by DfT. Not a myth but as told to me by one of the DfT officials at the time.

Cauliflowerear Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The number 12 is definitely a bus route to avoid in the early evening, since it passes throu Peckham, the ill mannered and feral kids from the area will have decorated the entire upstairs with gnawed chicken bones, ketchup smeared chicken boxes and other such detritus. I think kids like that shouldn't have free travel at all, particularly when they all bundle on, cause a huge racket and mess, then get off en masse at the nextstop. In deed. Bring Bach the birch. Put them in the army. Their parents are no doubt drug dealers and/or in prison. When I was young nobody ever did anything wrong. Perhaps we need to build a wall around Dulwich.

I expect this market was helped by government subsidies which always ends up with some shysters getting involved. Always helpful for good and bad comments about contractors on a suitable forum - trust a trader, trade associations and the like. General rule in any service is see whether they are a trade association member and if there is a code of practice. Sadly since austerity government tends not to get involved and local authorities have slashed trading standards teams. Ultimately you can go to court which I did once years ago and they settled rather than challenged. Of course you should complain to the company first. A little off piste but don't let one shoddy company put you off. I would have thought that solar panels added to the value of property. The Archer family are fitting them to their milking shed in Ambridge in the West Midlands.

So? I expect it didn't meet planning law/framework. If the decision was wrong then they could get it overturned by the planning inspectorate. If it was not in the approved application but was ok in principle then permission may have been granted retrospectively More importantly do you have a view on the original question? I did. You won't be the only person here who has an issue with Southwark but there are other threads you can join in.

What's your source? A mate in the pub, Daily Mail on line, Twitter, One Dulwich?? A quick Google search only found positive articles. Anything constructive to say?

It's good that you had a positive experience as so many were dismissive if this scheme including a thread on this forum. It should also add value to the property. Our issue is that they would have to go on the front of the house. If people have issues with pay back on solar panels, you should look at grey water and rain water recycling. Can cost 10s of 1000s

In deed. Early posts covered this but then went onto some political hobby horses, which I find it difficult not to question, or at least provide some context. I'll butt out!😊

This may be the wrong approach but I would be interested to know the solutions to the housing crisis. There are some bigger issues, second homers, overseas purchasing of new developments and then leaving them unoccupied, those living in places far too large for their needs (including so many extensions going up at present) and how the letting market is distorted by Air BnB. I'd be interested in views.

Interestingly I also bought cheese just after the war Foxy. But who's side were you on, Liam or Damon? It was carnage and I recall there were many family breakups. And worse the annoying cheese man, good friends with the architect of Brexit, Dave C. Borough Market at the weekend is rather vomit inducing so a great place to buy parmesan and Hershey bars.

Built a swift nest box. I can often see a few overhead but wonder if any will use it. Hopefully another species will. So much building noise I'm surprised any bird does nest round here. I understand many issues with migratory birds are also from countries where they spend winter, stopping off points with loss of habitat. Also more extreme weather due to climate change.

Ok,but not helpful to suggest that I have the authority to control what is posted in this forum. I'll avoid further provocative language. On the subject filling station numbers have drastically declined in the last 30 years due to cut throat competition. Many have been replaced with hand car washes, second hand car lots and the like. The entry of the large supermarket chains changed everything. Few are now surviving unless their filling station is part of a retail site. We are in a use it or lose it situation, go to many a small French town and you may find a couple of pumps at maybe 15 percent more than Carrefour. Government will not act to level things up between smaller companies and the large retailers, price maintenance going in the 60s. Exactly the same for the village butcher, baker and candlestick maker. Haven't a clue if this filling station sets a fair price, balancing this with demand although there are other alternatives too, relatively close by Fortunately I do little driving but have almost run out in the past when passing outlets and refusing to go in due to price. Internet is of course a great way to compare prices, and I know from cycling past Asda on OKR is very cheap but doubt if it is worth 40 mins of my time to save a few quid. There's also the matter of whether the UK should have done more to preserve our North Sea oil and gas and whether we let the multi nationals have too much control. Remember Thatch saying as crude priced dropped in the mid 80s how wonderful this was for motorists, taking the credit, but not saying it was a finite resource and impacted our environment was not in het vocabulary. Not sure about profiteering, which I expect has happened ever since communities traded in ancient history. I've probably killed this thread stone dead! -

It's a whingy thread FM. And a little hypocritical for you to talk about internet police where you are criticising my freedom of speech. The internet police would simply censor posts. Now if the thread was titled recommendations for filling stations that would be helpful. Sadly social media is an outlet for people saying what they don't like rather than a constructive debate. -
Sadly beyond my budget. Will you be buying samples Bob for us to try? Otherwise it is the free samples outside the Village Cheese Shop for me
