  1. Yes but we can breed less, drive less and travel less. A bit of a defeatest post. In a generation' time your grandkids will ask where were you when we could have tackled climate change?
  2. Community bonds to support low emission bus services deserves a thread of its own. There are many on this thread that seem to have a lot of free time to post on why the LTNs are bad. Their time could be better spent on initiating a community bond scheme in this area. Not a dig but a challenge ๐Ÿ˜Š
  3. Always had a lot of time for environmental protestors so will look forward to welcoming them. There's an adult conversation about appropriate direct action but hey ho, we got access to private land for ramblers and reversed the poll tax.
  4. I'm really enjoying hopping on and off buses. Great thing introduced by the Mayor. Just been on the P13 for the first time. It's a shame that there is so much negativity on this forum. Perhaps there is a more jolly Facebook site on local buses that I could join๐Ÿ˜Š. On the subject of the thread it is of course a shame that bus services are reduced - maybe a good reason such as declining demand resulting fro Covid or no doubt the state of TfL finances. But I see this as no reason to return to driving. On negativity there is of course no way you can be upbeat on, say, Thames Water and their frequent leaks. But there is always a bigger picture of government policy, in particular particular the selling off of the energy, telecoms and other utilities. And on funding active and public transport gesture politics without the funding to deliver. Lounge territory. Have a good day.
  5. You could level the same criticism at any scheme that restricts motorists (money generator) - CPZs, general parking, speed controls, access controls. Some in society consider there should be no controls on drivers. Most fortunately don't agree. There is as ever a discussion on incentives Vs penalties and where revenue goes.
  6. There was a great documentary about an ordinary American family, I say ordinary but the complexion is rather yellow and the Matriach has blue hair. Anyway they find out that there house was never adopted in the Union so they set up their own nation. Perhaps you could declare UDI Bob. Although I recall it ended up with US troops invading and I think there may have also been a native American burial site there so you could get a Poltergeist situation. So careful what you wish for.
  7. So you are not bothered about their other policies? The Tories introduced the initiative. Labour implemented it. LDs would like to support such initiatives but have lost any USP and still suffering from their time in the coalition.
  8. In this world you rarely get thanked so well done to Clicka for starting this thread. Perhaps others could pass on their thanks to those who have done them favours. I always like the thank you to the anonymous hero on Saturday Morning, Radio 4. Alternatively if you don't like a posting as it is unhelpful or irrelevant you may choose to ignore it. Many threads on this forum are 'clever' and/or unnecessary. That's the nature of social media.
  9. I think the OP was about whether as individuals we'd boycott it. Two great posts, but a general finger in the air suggests that most are either disinterested or don't care. ..
  10. I didn't bother with the third and now fourth series of Killing Eve. Worth checking out? Similarly I've given up on Peaky Blinders. It was criminal that Homeland continued after series 2. Lots of comedies that jumped the shark, obviously Happy Days, also Roseanne and Frasier. Before my time the later series of steptoe
  11. Well disappointed that you didn't like my reference to April Fools - the spaghetti harvest, the 80s comedy Trading Places or 80s soft rock and tight outfits. I thought it was funny although irrelevant Ps light hearted post
  12. Are you misinterpreting my points on purpose, not reading them or simply so full of your own views you can't consider others? 1. There are simple no brainer things that some motorists could do now. 2. No matter how good public transport is some motorists will still not use it. I expect we all know people like this Surely, surely, you can't disagree with these facts. This is not an invitation to go down another pro LTN/cyclist lobby diatribe
  13. I put all my money into pork bellies' futures, and the Italian spaghetti harvest. My hopes for a soft rock revival and demand for Spandex aka Lycra have yet to be realised
  14. This all goes to show how difficult it is to get many to use their cars less. An easy no brainer example is that you need to drive your kids to school. OK no doubt you have a good reason. It would be a no brainer to share that task with other parents. But most don't or won't. I expect most angry on this thread are those that suffer from congestion rather than cause it. But please get real. The utopian world wanted by Mr/Mrs Rockets ain't going to happen and even then we all know people that would still refuse to use public transport Ps written upstairs on number 12 bus
  15. Just out of interest why the "them" (vote them out"? Why not state Labour? All sounds like a crock of poo to me!
  16. Instinctively LDs should be pro measures to reduce car use. Which many will consider a positive thing
  17. Are you suggesting that we ditch buses for private cars Redpost? How much additional carbon will that mean?
  18. The documentary on Blair and Brown was great, if painful at times, watching. When presser punched the protester Blair was discussing this in his car and both the driver and security guard both immediately reacted with incredulance. Move on everyone, nothing to see.
  19. My earlier post about single issue politicians referred to Martin Bell. I am surprised that this didn't get many of you excited, as he stood on an anti-corruption platform (Neil Hamilton). The chap successfully campaigning on a local hospital was Richard Taylor in the Wyre Forest. If I have confused you scroll back to my last post
  20. Mouldy old dough. Lieutenant Pigeon
  21. This thread has turned into a debate on who to vote for on local authority elections rather than discussing LTNs. I hope that candidates have interests beyond the LTN and ditto for voters. If they only have a single interest eg Charlton returning to the Valley or Martin Bell and the local hospital perhaps they should run as such.
  22. Is there any point of the Lib Dems? A serious question.
  23. Most pollution is not from road transport, but pollution hotspots, particularly nitrogen oxides are. Hence disincentivising older more polluting diesels. When we have easterlies and it is warm and relatively still pollution can be worsened from emissions from the continent. We are blessed with clean westerlies from the Atlantic. In places like Paris when it is hot and still pollution builds up and is not well dispersed. Here they actually ban cars.
  24. Feels like there are a lot of gesture politics going on from government. We want people out of their cars using public transport and active travel. But we are going to stop short of making it happen. Across the Western World only Japan does less to subsidise their train network but you could argue it is so good it doesn't need to.
  25. I'd love a tour. Are you planning any? You could be part of Open House
