Ruth - I wonder. I rarely give any medicine, unless I really feel I need to. We were also giving calpol though and nothing. Shes never had Ibuprofen before but I thought I'd give it a go (the calpol wasn't working!!) and it worked. Had you ever given S Ibuprofen before? Or maybe the virus is resistant to paracetamol? Hmmm...

Still sleep problems here, but daughter is sooo much better today. Back to her old self, still coughing and slightly runny nose but no screaming in pain or anything. Me and partner still coughing 2 weeks on, I probably kept myself awake more last night in fits of coughing, she slept through them once in our bed though, PHEW! BST - Funny 40 minutes is always our magic number, if she is going to wake it normally dead on 40 minutes!

My daughter was always a milk baby. Even at 2 years I was still feeding her as if she was newborn. She absolutely fine, was still growing healthy and everything. She'd snack during the day a bit but usually just pick at meals. We stopped feeding the night before her birthday and the step from so much milk to all food was nonexistent. She didnt even realise she wasn't taking milk but getting everything from food. She eats very well, has finished dinners every night and is generally a lot less fussy with what she will eat. Please don't let it worry you. She will find her own way, just keep offering her nice healthy snacks and interesting dinners. We started teddy bears picnics, I'd make faces on pitta bread with raisins and apple and philidelphia, or spread tomato puree and grate cheese on a pitta and make a little pizza. Me and all my siblings were never even weaned till we were 1y+ we never actually fully established solids in our diet until we were around 18-24m. I don't think its uncommon in children either. When you think milk is all they know from the beginning until they are sometimes upto a year old. It takes time to encourage toddlers, but you will get there in the end. I assure you. P.S I know its hard but try not to worry too much.

All 3 of us in our house have had this virus for the last 2 weeks. My daughter is suffering with it at the moment a long with possible UTI. Antibiotics for us. Getting much better now though. My daughter waking in the night and not wanting to sleep in a lot of pain has been so hard, I feel complete zombie. Thankfully she slept 10pm-3am last night, before absolutely screaming the house down 'Mumm, Daddd, Mumm, Daddd, GET ME OUT!' What an alarm clock!

I dipsticked the sample last night as soon as I caught it, it showed positive for a small amount of leucocytes and blood in the urine. When doctor tested the same sample today (by then was 16 hours old, had been kept in fridge) it showed negative for any leucocytes but positive for blood still. I was told to wait for 60secs before reading results by first doctor, then second doctor said it didnt need that long. Today looking into the background I did see the test had turned positive for leucocytes but doctor said it had been too long to read it as a positive, it had been just over 60 secs. So contradictory. I suspect it is a UTI and so have 3 doctors now, todays doctor said without the positive leucocytes test it wouldnt be a UTI. We only realised after entering the 2nd pharmacy for the antibiotic that wasnt in stock anywhere that she had prescribed 10x the dose. I was actually thinking to myself 50ml thats a lot to take 3 times a day. Phew!! Buggie, thank you for that. I would start the anti-bios tonight but it makes me confused if I don't start them at the beginning of a day. If I give her a dose tonight, we have 3 days worth so when would the next dose be given (tomorrow morning?) and when would the course finish (Sunday night?) BB - I told the doctor I would get another sample for testing at the end of the course, I want to know if definitely gone. Ho hum, have to go through all the aggro again. Must be done though.

Hi ladies, wanted to see if anyone had similar problems with any of their little ones? Trying to get a urine sample is the biggest nightmare!! I've been so stressed for 2 days trying. But its done. After the use of U-bags (ERGH!) and then just literally trying to catch it. In the end she ended up witholding for 5 hours without a nappy on and then after 20 minutes of literally drip drops on the floor she stood in the bath and I got a sample. It was horrible, you could see she was getting stressed holding it in but I dont know why?! I'm fine if she wee's on my floor even she knows that!!! Anyway, I tested urine last night (doctor gave me equipment to do so at home) and found infection and blood in urine, took same sample to doctors today for testing and they found only blood. Now why is blood in the urine? I thought she had a UTI before (previous thread) but was fine after a few days and has only started up again within the last 3 days. With chesty cough and slight cold, lots of temperature. Even today she has had a nappy on since 10.30am and only just done a wee in it now. It was bone dry a minute ago. Surely thats long to withold for a toddler? She drinks enough, although a little on the low side over the past few days but still. I don't see how she can last that long. Anyway got antibiotics and ibuprofen prescribed. Will start course tomorrow. But I just wondered what the reasons were for blood in the urine specifically, and if anyone has experienced it in a young child?!

Happened on Dulwich Common last year. Beautiful sunny day, big tree shading my window nicely. Then along came the councils sub contractors (is it Gristwood and Toms?) and literally took every branch off the tree and its a big one. For the last year I've been stuck looking at this poor, droopy, sad tree. Its not growing much now, has the tiniest blossom, and looks absolutely hideous and bare. It was such a lovely tree before. And I miss my shade too!! Definitely less birds about without the tree. I mean pruning and keeping tidy, yeah. But cutting a tree right back, why? Are the surgeons (if thats what they want to call themselves) having too much fun swinging in the trees from a rope and waving round the chain saw?

Now someone tell me please will I have to go here to have a smear done or do they still do them in some surgeries in ED? I refuse to sit and wait 3hr+ at clinic if I can get it done at surgery. As if I'm looking forward to having one that much anyway..

I never get my phone out in public if I'm out on my own with my daughter. Of mugginngs I've witnessed/heard about in the last few years most people have been talking on the phone, carrying a recognizable laptop bag or such. People you can tell straight off that they are carrying valuables, these are most likely victims. I've had numerous phones stolen in the past purely because they were the best model on the market at the time. Its a sad world out there. Crime is not the way out but its made too easy for some. Its a shame though, I love my handbags but feel paranoid using one now. Stick to pockets, come summer thats no good.

new ed resident-baby ludoscotts has arrived!
GinaG3 replied to ludoscotts's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Congratulations, enjoy your new addition. X -
Oh fuschia the raisin thing made me laugh. My mum left my sister in the playpen one day to Answer the door, when she turned round my sister was literally picking whole raisins out of her poo. Need I say more, I believe my niece followed the same trend. Ewwww!!

Baby clinic/HV is it possible to go if not registered?
GinaG3 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You should be able to pop into any baby clinic for weighing. I was always told to go wherever I wanted to. This was only in 2009. Sorry I'm not of any more help, agree with buggie ring HV number in red book just to double check. -
As you all know I'm very much pro breastfeeding but still, I just really don't think I could do it. Is this just because it isn't the norm? I do not know. But then when you think about milk donation, and babies taking other peoples milk does it then became morally wrong that your child could have someone elses milk but you would never be prepared to try it or whatever? I just don't know. I wouldn't say I found the idea Yuck! but its definitely very out there and bizarre. Can you imagine walking into Sainsbury's and picking up a pint of breastmilk? Its society for you I suppose.. Then again there are people out there that probably wish they could just walk into a shop and get it. Around 1-2 years ago channel 4 showed a programme 'Other peoples breastmilk' I believe. In the programme they showed various people using breastmilk for different reasons (cross feeding, wet nursing etc). One 59y/o man was getting weekly donations to help try and calm/fight off the symptoms of his prostate cancer, he thought it was brilliant (he also thought it was indeed curing him - research and studies are on going and some completed into use in cancer sufferers) and I say if it helps try it. Maybe he would be happier eating icecream as opposed to drinking 'other peoples breastmilk'. It could be an absolutely genius idea.

Oh breastmilk does have a million and one uses. Its also one of the best natural make up removers you will find, apparently. It should even remove waterproof mascara.
-
lEDf - I was thinking the same, if it was my breastmilk it would be different. I think?! Then again we may be missing the most amazing icecream ever.. For ?14 you would hope so anyway. Belle I see your point too, they may well do that aswell, never know. Its the way she says "What's the harm in using my assets for a bit of extra cash?" Just thought I'd throw it out there anyway, very controversial.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12569011 Thoughts? Would you eat it? Its true what they say if its good enough for babies it must be good enough for us too. Anyone gonna go Covent Garden? ?14 a serving, now thats expensive icecream!!! Very out there idea I must say. But they think it will be a massive success. EDITED TO SAY: P.S THANK YOU FOR REMOVING MOD, I DON'T MEAN TO DOUBLE POST. I'M INNOCENT I PROMISE.

Back pain and breastfeeding (and sling carrying)
GinaG3 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Try to get it sorted as soon as you can really, I ignored mine thinking it would go away and it started causing me a lot more problems with headaches and tension in the neck and back. I breastfed for 2 years, and towards the end I just couldn't take it anymore. And also when your feeding always sit with your back straight and face forward, don't twist your body or lean over baby. Best of luck to you, x -
Surgery in ED seeing unregistered patients? (long shot)
GinaG3 replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Must of been lapping up swimming pool water for us I think, she has been absolutely fine all day, easting loads, no sore tummy, and plenty of pooing (after 2 days without). Maybe constipation? Will see how she is over the next 24 hours. Just me feeling crappy today now. Ho hum! Hows your boy Fuschia? -
Surgery in ED seeing unregistered patients? (long shot)
GinaG3 replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How do they expect a sample of urine off a toddler, do they no longer use the absorbent pad in the nappies, or is this just for babies? She has seemed fine all day today, I'm just unsure if she was playing up or what. Will get it all checked out anyway, just really peeved with MG! Changing GP immediately, been meaning to for months now. -
What is the problem with co-sleeping?
GinaG3 replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We stopped co-sleeping at 16 months due to violent outburst in the night (at which point we moved her to a cot next to our bed she jumped in our bed about 3am, then went into her own room at 21 months). I miss it so much, its a brilliant thing. We only have maybe 2 hours a night in our bed if at all. Usually 4-5 nights of the week she stays in her own bed all night now. Me and my brother both co-slept until around 10 years old due to the night terrors and sleep walking, I'll admit it, I don't mind. My sisters co-slept until at least 4/5/6 too not every day but most of the week. I could get by in my own bed just fine but felt much safer in bed/or in the same room with my dad, my brother was exactly like me minus the sleep walking. He and my dad infact shared a bedroom for 5 years. My mum always kicked my dad out for snoring anyway, you can physically feel the vibration 2 storeys apart so he always had to find another spot to lay his head. Super king-size is perfect for co-sleeping, we tried in a double this weekend but it just was NOT happening. I got kicked in the face (very hard!!) on more than 5 occasions in 30 minutes. My little fidget! -
We've been away for the weekend and my daughter (2 years old) has been constantly complaining of a sore tummy, stretching out her body and saying it hurts to go wee wee (temperature too, but has just got over the mother of all colds - so could be that). I'm worried she may have a urine infection. Tried to call MG who cant see her for 2 days due to being fully booked up so what do I do? I'm so angry that they wont see a child, they should get priority!! Are MG wrong for not giving her an appointment? It doesn't seem right to me to ignore concerns about a young child. Typical I stop breastfeeding and everything comes at once. All a bit stressful. Anyone help?

Scribe, the deal for my brother in law started at such an such price and each month was rising about ?5 to the point he got a bill for over ?125 in just one month. Sky can get round this by a tiny tiny little line of text in their 'terms and conditions'. Oh loopholes, clauses and small print! Next for Sky, World domination!
