  1. We have all the Toca Boca series. Sago mini is a hit too. OF COURSE, minecraft pocket edition!! Bamba are cute too! We also have lego apps, the sims and what feels like the whole app store which get rotated when she finds something new on the app store she wants. iPad is full so she has to delete to make way for something new so we are always clearing out and refreshing our collection but Toca Boca always remains, firm favourite.
  2. I don't have the 100mb package but do have the 50mb one. I've been with virgin for 5 years and never received even close to the speed I paid for, they always maintained the package was 'upto X speed'. I lived on dulwich common for most of this time and it was horrendous. I'm now on the other side of Dulwich, nearer Herne Hill and finally get the speeds advertised. In fact I'm mainly getting 52mbps all day and night when it might drop to 47mbps or so. Upload speeds are reaching 3mbps.
  3. I was a sufferer of night terrors until I was 11, including sleepwalking. My daughter seems to have carried this on, she's 6. We notice they only seem to happen around times of stress, latest was moving house and having a new baby (at the same time!!!!). It also happens mainly with colds, when she goes to bed with a stuffy nose and especially with temperature. I know from my own experience that I grew out of them, mine were worst from age 8 when my youngest brother was born and the dynamic of our family changed. At 11 they stopped but carried on intermittently until I was around 14. My parents always left me to it, with the terrors they tried to stop them during the night but couldn't, with the sleep walking they tried to carry me back to bed but that failed too. In the end they just let it all play out, I always found my way back to bed after doing some very random stuff. I never had any recollection in the morning so could never actually quite believe the stories that become some form of tradition around the breakfast table. We just leave our daughter, we've tried waking but nothing gets through to her (she's fully in deep sleep mode when it happens) and actually I think can sometimes make it worse waking them. I hate hearing her crying in the night, sometimes she screams, other times its just sobbing. I find it very difficult to leave her and it breaks my heart every time but I can't find another conclusion. I'm sorry I don't have any tips for you but just so you know it is actually quite common. Good luck, hopefully you will be through it soon, I know how difficult it can be.
  4. We always planned to have floating shelves in our daughters room with the 'made' sets on them, as display etc. Alas, the walls in our new house are crap so won't hold up the shelves we bought - therefore all the lego is in sort and store heads, a girl and a boy. A few sets are on her trofast unit but only minecraft sets from christmas and a giant coast guard boat that won't even fit in a box!
  5. Second time around I could not live without our baby gaga bean bag. Seriously. My best EVER baby purchase! I've even converted others.
  6. I don't want to hear this about Camberwell. Its so close that I can't bare the thought of going anywhere else. My baby is 7 weeks old but I desperately need to get a coil fitted. My GP said Camberwell does do bookable appointments, as I can't wait there with the baby for hours on end as a walk in! She highly recommended the Bermondsey FPC. I'm not looking forward to getting this sorted at all. Most GP surgeries have someone that can fit now. My last coil failed and GP's couldn't insert so I was offered to be referred to Kings but refused, I've since had the option to have it done under general anaesthetic twice and refused again. After this baby I need to try the coil again but I'm not looking forward to it. Anyone else had someone fail to insert before? If so, what did you do after, where did you go?
  7. I've had two babies at Kings, although both were vaginal births. I wouldn't have a second thought about delivering there or recommending delivering there. My first birth (6 years ago!) was all fine, my wishes were respected, I was cared for compassionately and everything went smoothly. The only downside to my first birth was the aftercare in the ward could of been better, I discharged myself 9 hours after birth as I couldn't stand the claustrophobic nature of hospital and the emotional wangle of the ward staff over my daughters reluctance to breastfeed, she was hours old! With my first I laboured in kings for 3 hours, for those 3 hours I was looked after by the same person and had no intervention, I was asked at every stage what I wanted to do. I just had my second there 5 weeks ago, and the care somehow excelled the first birth experience. I would go as far as to say my care there was exceptional. I had a lot of problems during the pregnancy with my blood, phlebotomy were great, the obstetricians were great, my community care was brilliant and all round I felt very reassured through a very stressful time. I chose to birth in the midwife led unit with this birth and it was incredible - yes I'd go as far as to say that. I laboured for 1.5 hours and panicked a bit at the speed of my labour but they relaxed me quickly. I gave birth in a relaxed environment, with no help, no intervention and no monitoring. I was again given options all along the way, had no-one telling me what to do, midwife helped me birth by myself, giving us plenty of space. I had 3 midwives present due to shift change and a student being involved. They were great with delaying cord clamping and a physiological third stage labour even when it was starting to take longer than they would like. Yet again I discharged myself for my own sanity but the ward staff this time were much better (I even had the same woman, who had remembered my tantrum about discharge 6 years ago!) I'd recommend Kings hands down for their care of pregnant women, even more so now than with my first birth. No matter what happened in my labour I would of felt safe in their hands. I won't use certain other Kings departments, and prefer to be under the care of St Thomas' or Guys but for pregnancy I'd stick with Kings. We're lucky to have such brilliant care so close.
  8. Thank you for replies. Just going to try it. Left it too late today to book in, hopefully they can do it tomorrow so she can be all refreshed for back to school. Eek!
  9. My daughter is set on having her hair cut here. Any recent recommendations? I've always cut her hair myself, now with a newborn baby I'm struggling to find time. This will be her first professional cut, she is nearly 6. I don't want her to hate it after or not feel relaxed during the cut.. Anyone recommend them?
  10. I was only the other day sitting at this junction in traffic. I hate it. The layout and safety when crossing east dulwich grove at the junction takes a lot of concentration, especially with children! You've also got to be pretty quick. I'm rarely in a car as I don't drive myself but when I am i notice much more at that crossing. Just 3 days ago some idiot did a right turn, there is no right turn there for a reason as he got honked and hooted by everyone that witnessed it. At that moment I wondered how that rule is enforced, there is no camera facing east dulwich grove, unless the traffic lights to the right have one installed. I imagine many a car does a right turn there at night when it's empty! Sympathies to the lady and wishing her a speedy recovery.
  11. My mum swears by vaseline (for removing makeup) for keeping her glowing first and foremost - followed by the clinique and trilogy ranges that mount up in her bathroom. Paw paw is very good too. My nana has very good skin for her age too, so maybe its in the genetics? I'm only 24, but beauty flash balm works wonders for when my skin feels tired and dehydrated. For what its worth, anti ageing wise, boots no7 protect and perfect is still the UKs best selling and most recommended anti ageing serum. I remember having to hide some at work for the women that absolutely could not live without it when it first came out and was hard to come by. P.S no longer an employee - not selling tactics, haha.
  12. I spend ?150 on my 5 year old, this year has not seen her get much though as she's now asking for more expensive items. I always watch and grab at half price or less, take advantage of shops misprices and shop on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. I use distinct vouchers and get cashback too, never shop anywhere else than online. Have a 3 week old baby now too, would of not bothered with anything but want my daughter to see her get some stuff and help with opening etc so picked up a few tiny bits for the future for under ?10 all in.
  13. A similar thing happened to me in Peckham high street in broad daylight about 4 years ago. I too assumed it was a stone until a noticed the yellow plastic pellet rolling across the floor next to me. I never reported it, but actually should of. I was with my baby in a pram and consequences could of been different. As a teenager I was shot in the face, close range with a BB gun and still have a scar by my eye, it was literally millimetres away from being a different story.
  14. My daughter is requesting a Windows PC for Christmas, all because of Minecraft and wanting to mod on it, which you can't on her iPad. We also already have XBOX edition!! Apparently our Apple laptops aren't good enough. She's nearly 6! The world has gone crazy, and she's crazy too if she thinks she's getting any more Minecraft or devices! This year we are buying lego Minecraft sets for her Christmas, best of both worlds, Minecraft minus the screen hogging and square eyes.
  15. A lot of GP surgeries do them, check with yours if you haven't already. They normally happen in their minor surgery clinics once a week or so.
  16. I'm a country girl, I've never lived under aircraft filled skies at all. No sirens in the countryside either (well, hardly) and now I'm living on the south circular! Imagine that shell shock! I must admit, I found it difficult for about a year when I first moved here but expected it and now I'm used to it. Even the police helicopter goes up the very second I seem to get in to bed at night around 3-4 times a week, so inconsiderate! Some of the planes are loud, I'll give you that, we get them coming over so low they almost feel like they are flying in to the living room or taking the roof off! Just got to live with it I think.
  17. They were open all last week when we were on school run..
  18. I have a steam mop and its great. Dries in seconds so no slipping over. I'd never return to a mop and bucket or getting on my hands are knees. We have tiled kitchen, bathroom and toilet floors and then laminate hall way, it brings them all up nicely although mine was just a cheap experiment from asda! I've also cleaned the carpet with it, although the job wasn't good enough to notice a thing expect for the smell coming out of the carpet!!!
  19. Bit late for me as I'm moving off the route, but hopefully helps out people in the mornings. Winters are the worst, trying to get on buses when they are full and just drive past 4 in a row. This is definitely needed.
  20. I'm stuck in this dilemma and its really hard! I was on the progesterone only pill for 2 years for Endometriosis prevention after 2 surgeries and having one child. I hated every minute of it and pulled myself off it after my cycle became erratic and it wasn't helping my pain. I'm now pregnant again and due in 5 weeks, once again looking at my options. I'm not allowed anything containing Estrogen as I'm a severe migraine sufferer, I'm also not allowed it due to the growth of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. I tried to have a coil fitted which failed, although have been offered it under local anaesthetic at Kings and under general anaesthetic during surgery at St Thomas', I declined both as I am concerned about struggling with symptoms that I cannot stop quickly by stopping contraceptive, id have to have the coil taken out! I am highly sensitive to a lot of medications and hormone changes. I've been offered a complete abdominal hysterectomy since the age of 21 due to my health conditions and poor pain management, I'm refusing this also as I'm only 24. I feel completely stuck for choices. There should definitely be a male contraceptive out there! Why is it always down to the woman? I feel like I will be forced in to taking the pill as it is the only realistic option I have for long term contraceptive. I don't plan on any more children but could of course change my mind within the next 10-15 years. I am highly considering having my tubes tied but at the same time I feel foolish for even thinking about it, I just don't know what will happen over the rest of my reproductive years. You've just got to make sure you make the right choice for your needs and your circumstances.
  21. From my experience they aren't worth it for preventing drafts and cold. My mum and dad have secondary glazing on their old manor house. The whole house is very cold during the winter despite the secondary glazing. I remember many nights of whistling wind through the windows and freezing draft in my bedroom. I find the back of the house warmer than the front, and it doesn't have secondary glazing but instead all new wooden frames with new single glazing. Theirs was originally installed for noise at the front as its on a main road.
  22. For the last 5 years I've been bombarded with estate agent mail outs trying to get us to sell with various agents as our postcode is highly desirable. We rent from a private landlord, so I obviously can't just sell up! She has just sold though and had valuations from 7 agents before picking 2 that she felt were realistic. It went up for sale mid August, was pelted with viewings (7 a week or so) and then sold after 4 weeks on the market. I can't understand it myself. The prices are crazy, a lot of people are first time buyers and estate agents are still the work of the devil. How do people earn so much money to be able to buy as first timers in such an expensive market. Its beyond me, but its happened.
  23. I had problems with my breathing when I was younger, mainly wheezing and coughing. I had the asthma checks when I was about 7/8 and was monitored regularly, having readings done by a nurse etc. I was prescribed an inhaler and spacer which worked somewhat but not fully. We had a dog and 2 cats at the time. I started to notice a pattern myself in the wheezing, one time we went on a school trip to a animal education centre and it was lambing season. I really struggled that day and had a small 'attack'. I then started to notice when I was stroking the dogs or even sometimes just walking past them I would feel wheezy. I came off the inhaler for some reason or another and never was prescribed it again. I've noticed even in adulthood and during my teenage years that I am normally fine around animals but ones that shed a lot of hair can bring on wheezing and tight chest. I can stay at my mums house and I'm usually fine with her 2 Jack Russell's but won't be the same around more hairy dogs. I think cats are an issue for me as they seem to loose more thin hair than dogs. When we are 10 my brother was born, he was severely allergic to all pet and animal hair, our dog had died and we had got another one, my mum was forced to give him up to our grandparents because of the issues my brother had (skin related not breathing as I recall but very very severe), my own issues at this point did seem to become more bearable as did my brothers. My brother grew out of his allergies at around 7 and I grew out of mine at puberty, I'm now 24 and don't suffer with breathing difficulties or asthma around animals anymore but can still get puffy eyes.
  24. It's hideous! How can anyone actually like it? Sure it's a cheery colour, I actually love that shade of yellow but not for a building like that. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Really bad choice! We're not in the Mediterranean.
  25. I'm due our second in 7 weeks too and am strongly considering getting one. I'm especially interested in one with removal bowl that can be put on the hob to brown in first as don't like the idea of just sloping it all in. We cook on gas so I'm uncomfortable with the thought of leaving the house with the oven on which is another bonus to using a slow cooker, I won't be so paranoid about burning the house down! I wouldn't use it for things like bolognese or any sauces but would use it for slow cooking meat, stews, casseroles. I can see it being a winter wonder and then not used during the summer months, unless just for pork joints etc that can be shredded with rolls and salads. I currently spend 1-1.5 hours a night cooking but don't want to be continuing this in the first weeks of having a baby as I would prefer to spend my time with the baby. To me it seems like a good experiment and for that reason I won't spend a fortune on one at first.
