  1. I don't really get why everybody is so obsessed with having a waitrose. Surely everyone knows if you want to be just like big sis' clapham you need a Whole Foods Market.
  2. Don't want to turn this into a moneysavingforum but when free chocolate is at stake I thought an exception might be made. Click for free Milka 100g bar! Enjoy!
  3. According to the planning docs, the Sainsburys will be open 7-11 daily

  6. Planning permission has been granted to divide the unit into 2. One side is, indeed, a 99p store. (tu)woo
  7. A repertory cinema- or something like the shortwave in Bermondsey square would be fantastic p.s. is there a cobbler on Lordship Lane (no smart comments suggesting the east dulwich deli allowed)
  8. Rye Lane Improvements consultation document Leaflet showing proposed improvements including the cycle lane location. It's valuable to see how the cycle lane fits into the context of the wider plan to regenerate Rye Lane
  9. Contraflow systems + highly pedestrianised areas don't mix well in my experience. It's so narrow and busy at that end of Rye Lane anyway, it's hard to see how the lane would fit. An alternative (for those who actually belive in obeying the highway code) is always to hop off your bicycle at wheel it the 50m or so before jumping back on and continuing down Rye Lane
  10. The simplest way would be to catch a train from Peckham Rye/Nunhead to Blackheath (half-hourly service). However the council are recommending people avoid using Blackheath station for reasons of overcrowding so be prepared if you do. Getting on a train coming home might take a while too although Southeastern have put on a few extra services. Alternatively you could catch a bus to either Deptford Bridge, Lewisham or Greenwich (all from Peckham bus station or 484 will take you to Lewisham from Peckham Rye Common) and walk from any of those. Services to Blackheath station Peckham Rye: departing 14 and 44 mins past the hour Nunhead: 16 and 46 mins past the hour Blackheath: arriving at 25 and 55 mins past the hour

    rail query

Hi Sophie, The East London Line used to a tube line (tube carriages) which has now been converted to London Overground (standard rail carriages) which is part of Transport for London so I guess that's why it appears on the map. On reflection, I probably was unfair to say the purple line addition was pointless as I, myself, like to occasionally dabble with a fantasy map alteration!

    rail query

I presume you're referring to the map here The map is an official TfL publication showing the conversion and extension of the existing East London Line to West Croydon (due start 2010) and Clapham Junction (due 2012) as part of the London Overgrond network. As far as I'm aware, everything apart from the new station at Surrey Canal Road has secured funding in place already. Laurie Egglestone (pointlessly) has also added the current South London Line in purple in an attempt to argue that it should be marketed under the TfL brand. He also wrongly suggests that Oyster PAYG is currently valid on this route.
  14. Hi Barry. Really appreciate your efforts with this thread, Barry. I was wondering why ticket office staff are not provided with the basic ticket terms and conditions (either electronic or paper format)? I recently required the following information which I later found on the National rail website: Anytime Day Single tickets are valid for travel on any train on the date shown on your ticket. Break of journey for an overnight stay is allowed. Where a journey continues into the next day, travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains. Whilst the gentleman at East Dulwich ticket office did all he could to find out the above statement (telephoning other stations etc.)- surely he could have been helped by having this information to hand in the first place? Kind regards Greg
  15. Apologies I know it's not strictly ED news. Just passed earlier today- masses of trucks and crew at the College Road entrance of Dulwich Park and up near Dulwich Village school. Just wondering if anybody knows what it was- looked pretty large-scale
