  1. Hi James, have just sent some further details regarding the dodgy pavement on Dulwich Common.
  2. Hi James, not sure if this is your area or not but the pavement on Dulwich Common between the park and the sports clubs is in a terrible state. It's particularly bad on the south side by the playing fields. Any idea if/when it might get seen to?
  3. Think I saw the same lot up by Peckham Rye near the corner with East Dulwich Road some time around 8.15 yesterday evening. Three of them, dressed quite plainly as you say with the same bandanas covering their faces. I was out running in a group and they came at us and would perhaps have tried to start hassling us except we didn't stop so it was all over in seconds. Didn't really think that much of it to be honest beyond looking back to give them the stink-eye for a second or two. Had forgotten all about it by the time we finished the run. Not pleasant to think they were causing more serious trouble elsewhere. Thinking about it, there was another group of kids a little further on, with mopeds. They were just standing around not getting up to anything but I got the impression there was something between this lot and the three trouble-makers. Couldn't say whether this means they were all together somehow, or whether instead the three trouble-makers had just hassled this other group... Sorry, not all that useful!
  4. I'd say 2 and 4 is still fairly firmly in doomland, Otta. As others have said, 4+ for youngest is when it eases up a little. (Then you just need to keep an eye out for the eldest hitting puberty.)
  5. I thought it was a bee.
  6. I'm with BE for broadband and they've been very good, but they just recently got flogged off to Sky so how they'll be from now on is anyone's guess so based on that can't really recommend them at the moment.
  7. It did seem somewhat louder and more persistent than the usual visitations of the fuzz-on-high.
  8. Big group of them down by the graveyard in the village this morning. My kids tell me they spotted the same lot up at the Charter yesterday. They're on the move!

    The news

No, I was thinking exactly the same thing. I feel as though the news used to be better, though to be honest I can't think now of any concrete examples! Still, all this ghoulish sensationalism doesn't actually serve any purpose or make our lives better in any measurable way, so I find myself watching less and less these days. I don't feel I'm any less informed when it comes to important stuff. There are plenty of other ways for real news to reach me.
  10. There seems to be a twitter account associated with them, @theyarecomingSE. Lots of 'ooh let's be all enigmatic and create a buzz' type stuff.
  11. She can reseal my shower if she likes. (Not a euphemism.)
  12. I had kids at Goodrich and it was every bit as Medusa says. We moved them elsewhere and were glad of it. But that was a couple of years ago and there has been a new head since then. I hear that the school has changed a lot since we left. However, I also notice that many of the supportive comments here seem to come from parents of kids in reception or year 1. In my experience those years were always OK, and the rot set in from year 2 onwards. This is not to say that opinions from parents of reception and year 1 kids don't count - of course they do - but you'd do well to make sure you hear from parents of kids in the higher years too if you can. So: I'm very much *not* saying that all the problems Medusa identified are still there, but they were once very serious problems holding back what ought to have been a very good school. I hope this is no longer the case, for everyone's sake!
  13. You could try this lot: http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/wood_burning_stoves/Range-cooker-stoves.html I'd imagine it would have to be DEFRA approved to use around here.
  14. It may be worth noting that in the eight or so years I've been registered with DMC (Crystal Palace Road) I have hardly ever seen the same doctor twice, and most of the ones I do see seem to pass through and have left again by the time I come back. Balance against that the fact that I don't go all that often. Nevertheless, it would be nice to get an appointment (ha!) and have at least some chance of seeing a doctor you've seen before and who knows you. I think I'll be leaving them for pastures green too...
  15. 10.20 am, powdery snow, settling but not particularly deep (yet). Wouldn't expect any trouble on the side roads as things stand. Of course it's still early...
  16. That story sounds very familiar - feel like I read something very similar on here a few years back. Would have been when we were looking for new carpets after our loft conversion so... late 2009 or early 2010. We did eventually use LLC for some of our carpets and found them to be very good.
  17. Try www.walkjogrun.net - you can search for routes other people have made or make your own. It has plenty of routes for this area. www.gmap-pedometer.com is also good. Here's one 10k route I like - quite hilly in parts: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5457966
  18. I'll just leave these here gents: http://www.connaughtshaving.com/ http://theenglishshavingcompany.com Prices and range for both seem fairly decent compared to other sites I've seen.
  19. We got our girls Birkenstocks at Biff recently. Again, wonderful staff, even when it was really manic in there.
  20. Oh yeah, we had him in Landells Rd last night too. Hadn't thought about telling the SNT but will keep it in mind for next time.
  21. Robinsons summer fruits with barley. But then I'm fine with just water. Easily pleased, me.
  22. Just a thought, and assuming he is legit: when else should he have called round? Not sure I'd call 8pm all that late, assuming he wants to ensure people are home and have been for a little while so they have a moment to talk.
  23. Our daughter will start at Dulwich Village Infants in September, and her younger brother will be eligible for his free nursery place not long after that. Can anyone recommend a good nursery or pre-school over that way? We'd prefer to send him half days only.
  24. She's incredibly young, that I Can Cook lady. Not that that's a good or bad thing, of course. Just saying because I remember being surprised when I heard. Had expected her to be older (from her confidence and general manner rather, not her looks).
  25. DaveR's hit it on the head: it's not illegal, but it is insensitive and at best naive - or stupid, if you prefer. They could just be keen on filming and lacking in social skills. Could be. But it sounds iffy to me.
