  1. I'm surprised to hear you say that. But say the guy becomes truly remorseful. He's the model prisoner, studies and gets an education. After parole in 12 years he's released and despite finding it hard, really contributes to society. He may even go on to save someone else from going down the wrong path. Sheesh, haven't you guys even watched Shawshank Redemption ;-) Shouldn't an enlightened society give them the benefit of the doubt?
  2. can you clarify katy? The lack of garden is unfortunate but that was refused over a year ago. Do they want to extend the building into the garden, or just allow customers out there? I know a few of the staff and the clan and I've not heard anything about potential closure, can I ask what it is you've heard? It'd certainly be a loss to lordship lane, it sits in a good niche even if it isn't every one's cup of soulero. and welcome to the forum
  3. Despite our run-ins in the past DC (always interesting), I suspect we're a lot closer politically than we think.
  4. Is there no room for repentance or forgiveness in this world? Pretty bleak world if not. It always strikes me how the US, the most christian country in the developed world, is so keen on the death sentence and heat up about vengeance and doesn't really get forgiveness. I'm no christian, but JC (John Cleese) had some pretty marvellous ideas about all that malarkey. I gather allah's pretty big on being merciful too.
  5. oops sorry fish, I always seem to get it wrong, I was absolutely convinced snorky was a she for ages too if it's any consolation.
  6. Budget Live!! (a la daily mash) http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/politics-headlines/budget-live!-20080312789/ 1232: British economy like an injured greyhound, says Darling 1248: Gordon Brown pushes chancellor out of the way and tells him he's 'doing it all wrong'. 1254: Pledge to abolish poor children. 'They're so horrid' says chancellor 1306: Glasgow-London journey time reduced to 'less than two weeks' 1320: Cigarettes to be sold from box full of cobras Is it just me or is the daily mash the best site on the internet at the moment?
  7. hear hare here DC!
  8. battlefield 3 shaping up very nicely indeed very silly trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cHRB_-LQ0s
  9. "would you like to see a reduction in public spending elsewhere?" Pulling troops out of Iraq, and phased from Afghanistan. Not wasting any more money on ID cards. Stop the ?12bn NHS IT project, it's a miserable failure, stop now after only ?3 billion before we chuck any more good money at bad (andersen, fujitsu et al). Next time have an IT strategy for the NHS, not an "IT Strategy". Don't renew Trident, we are, after all, signed up to the NPT.
  10. Blimey, that was quite disturbing.......if accurate. NOT ENOUGH RANTING PEOPLE!!!!!
  11. If we're going to talk Bringing Back Hanging, I loved the idea that if it goes to referendum, everyone who will have voted yes gets their name put into a hat, and every time there's a miscarriage of justice, a name gets drawn from the hat and they get executed as recompense for their part in having taken the innocent man's life. Very fitting.
  12. Ha ha ha! :-$ I'll change it then (which will make you look wrong MWAH HAH HAH HAH).
  13. he he, perfect timing http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/list.php?20
  14. Anything goes* here. Boss getting you down, bus just splashed your new dress with muddy water? Release your pent up aggression here. No need to expect sesnible debate, don't worry, no guardian reader can chastise your spittle-flecked rants here, if you want a serious discussion, take it somewhere else. They're all b******s, blimmin politician's dogs getting hoodies putting up fences on our greens with needles, whilst cavorting around in three wheeled buggies drinking overpriced lattes and eating expensive bread...bbl**y middle /upper/working class freaks I've had it up to here, I'm leaving the street/area/country. You get the picture. If you still need some inspiration, then look no further than here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/default.stm *As long as it falls within the falls within the forums ToU
  15. Very nice, lovely voice. Cute too ;)
  16. I wouldn't let it get you down PGC. i'll get my coat
  17. Nice one DC. I'm sick and tired of people saying "ooh all these little hitlers saying what I can and can't say". Short of outright slander, libel or a crass personal attack, noone tries to stop anone saying anything. But unfocussed, spitleflecked rants with no purpose other than some cathartic unloading of pent up aggression rather sets it self up to a rhetort of "can't you say something useful". I'm sure there's a thread somewhere specifically for that. If not, I'll set one up. As it goes, if you tease out the rhetoric from Fish's post, she's saying I don't think Alistair Darling is really the Chancellor, I think Brown is holding onto the reigns of economic policy. I don't think an extra ?50 annually towards pensioners' fuel bills (?100 for the over 80s) is doing enough to prevent the winter crises faced by the elderly each winter. I think politicians live in an ivory tower. None of which is so very contentious is it.
  18. My spurs mate tells me that at White Hart Lane the other day, at 2-0 down our fans were chanting you must be **** if you can't score four against us. As the missus would say "mocking is catching"
  19. My downstairs tv now seems to be exclusively for Hollyoaks and Eastenders and I gave away my games room TV to asset. So spending my whole gaming time trying to clear level 1 of http://stalingrad-2.freeonlinegames.com/
  20. Sorry to hear that paragon. As SMG says, we've been there go here https://service.xbox.com/register.aspx register your box and they'll email you a ups thingy to print off. Call up UPS and they'll collect it. You'll get it back fairly quickly as the rush has passed. My motherboard blew up. Wet towel wasn't going to do much good. Still, it was alomst 3 years old, so as it goes I've managed to squeeze another 2 years warranty out of the whole deal.
  21. Aaagh, RSS feeds full of spoilers about series 5!! Must...browse...with eyes...shut....
  22. As it goes *Bob* I had a disturbingly similarly surreal conversation with my own dad about 5 years ago at christmas. He was in Madrid and I went down to see him. He was suffering from a pretty severe depression and had convinced himself (he thinks himself a very rational man) that he was a drain on resources and had decided to end it all. Over our crackers and crimbo paella I had to say that method a would be terribly unfair on the train driver. Method b was too messy, imagine the poor chap who finally had to find you. No no we can't possibly have c, too much risk of fire and killing a neighbour etc, to which he'd sagely nod, and say "I always said you should have been a lawyer Piers". Fortunately I persuaded him to hold on long enough for him to pull through (or at least the drugs to kick in).
  23. The assisted dying thread (yeah good mood clearly gone now) reminded me of this song from Ed Hamell, whom SMG took me to see a few weeks ago. His father killed his mother (who had been suffering some sort of senile dementia) then killed himself. In his note he said that if Jesus wanted to have words with him, he'd scream "why did you do that to my Mary!!". Powerful but rewarding show (it's actually very funny believe it or not)
  24. Still playing for me, but never mind, here's the youtube Annual - Brother I'll throw in a (slightly iffy) live version of sway too, which pitchfork described as all indie's recent soiled clothes washed in a lady black mambazo rinse. No idea what they're talking about but it makes for a good quote.
  25. I'm in a curiously good mood people annuals brother
