  1. "Just watched Ken Loach's "Wind that shook the Barley". Still reeling from it. Powerful or what?" I found it so documentary that it left me feeling rather cold and underwhelmed, which is odd as the likes of Kes and Land and Freedom are among my favourite all time films. I know that's his general style, but this time it felt somehow too detached. Perhaps Loach was too preoccupied with portraying the 'reality of empire' as commentary on today's events that he didn't manage to get under the skin of events a little short of a century ago. Perhaps it was the subject matter, I know that most people who manage to sit through the half hour discussion on collectivisation versus private ownership in Land and Freedom are literally bored to tears, and the Town Hall discussion in the liberated town which closely echoes that scene, discussed a matter with very little relevance for me personally, but I'm sure would be of much greater interest to someone from a 'priest infested backwater'. Regardless of my feelings I agree it's a film well worth watching; my missus was certainly moved by it "you see" she said at the end "can you understand why everyone hates you now?" - On second thoughts....
  2. *sigh* Yeah it's aged, but my grin still goes from ear-to-ear Soundtrack still rocks!
  3. Will there be a Spider-Baby?
  4. It better had *Bob*, else how will it earn 50 grand a year, like this forum does?!?
  5. Ooh, just brought Le Divorce to mind. James ivory directs Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts. Sounds good? Horrifically poor. Never ever ever put yourself through it.
  6. Will certainly keep an eye out for it!
  7. I trust this won't be leaving anyone cold... Bonnie Prince Billy - Lay and Love
  8. LOL. Aaaah, that's really brightened up my day. Well handled Mark.
  9. They had a spate of supporting a lot of bands like The Flaming Lips et al. I only finally asked their name the 5th time I saw them, by this time I knew some of their songs like Apologies to Insect Life off by heart.
  10. I saw them about 5 times supporting others and ended up enjoying them more than the headline bands sometimes. The second album was rather mundane as it goes, but for their live bonkersness and that first album they will always have a place in my heart even if they never live up to the potential. Think Manics, their last 5/6 albums have been pretty dull, but that doesn't mean they leave your heart for Gen Terrorists and The Holy Bible does it.
  11. Classic stuff. Well, as I've still miserably failed to get myself to a shop that sells CDs in the flesh (dying breed by the sounds of things) I'm having to make do with 'orrid MP3s for the time being British Sea Power - Waving Flags British Sea Power - No Lucifer British Sea Power - Atom
  12. true da', aiit.
  13. *sees blatant christian allegory, runs like billio*
  14. Oh jesus, those breakfasts. Made me feel white odd just watching it. Series 3 returns to some of the themes from the first series and gets much more into politics at all levels.
  15. *thinks of you can't beat them...* *dons slippers* *opens bag of finest shag, fills pipe and applies hefty match* *smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooottthhhhh...*
  16. Had a polite word with the lass in question and must say she was apologetic and cooperative and jolly nice. Anyhoo they're down now so all's well...
  17. I think mine is Piersy
  18. I think she's doing it naively rather than a thief, but I might send her a polite message asking her to remove them.
  19. For photo sharing Flickr is infinitely better, plus you get to license your photos whereas Facebook claim ownership on anything that's posted on their site. As a nice but nisguided girl has been uploading my ED photos on to it as hers, without my permission, I'm less than thrilled. I haven't taken any action as basically I'm not convinced anyone ever looks at facebook groups. *edited fior resolution*
  20. Had you just been watching Team America Nero? And shouldn't that be pirrow?
  21. Tinga, I think it got raised about 3 or 4 times last week. Curiously it all seems to be upper east-siders complaining about the plough. You might want to try Hoopers. No dangers of being troubled by children there.
  22. I'll admit it's been useful in a NuFriendsReunited sort of way. I've been able to get telephone numbers and email addresses from good friends I've drifted apart from but am very keen to stay in touch with. Anything atop that on facebook is purest dross though.
  23. That was lovely Sean. I'll carry on the old school chilledness with Pink Floyd - Echoes Pt1 (live at Pompeii) and Pt 2 If you can find a portugese cover that would be cool too.
  24. Baddam tish. Love the photos though, very creative. Found this on a local chap's* blog. Such a charming photo. *well, I guess he is. He seems to like Franklin's and Dulwichmum...good man!
